Posts: 94 Location: Perham, MN | You could add some black stripes and a orange belly and make it a firetiger pattern...

Posts: 94 Location: Perham, MN | I usually paint the "background" colors first and then stripes/spots or whatever I have in mind for the particular bait. But, do some expirementing and find what works for you. goodluck Edited by Zman 3/24/2007 9:12 PM

Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | Muskie Kid, what kind of paint are you using? Did you use a primer/sealer before painting? The reason I ask is that I had issues in the past with having multiple coats of paint from spray cans. If I used different types of paint sometimes they weren't compatable and the finish would peel after a short time. This, of course was before I made baits for selling.

Posts: 137 | Apple green is a really good color to go with a frog pattern, like the classic heddon pattern. I love that pattern for any baits, but especially for topwaters and it is easy to do. Do the main bait color, then do a yellow or white belly pattern, and then put on the spots. Fun bait colors to do. Here are a few bass poppers that I have with different types of frog patterns. Perch patterns are similar except that you have stripes instead of spots. Have fun with it and do whatever patterns come to mind. "Green is for the money and the gold is for the honey BLING BLING" You got that write. lol. Kid, now that you got some green and orange, add white or yellow for the belly with some black stripes and presto you got a perch, hard to beat a perch, as a fisherman first I would go perch pattern all day every day.

Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | What method of painting are you using? Depending on what you use I may have some great tips. I study a lot on various methods for doing paintings and would be happy to share what I have learned.

Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | That's a really good idea. If you want some tiny little dots, try using an old toothbrush. Dip the bristles in the paint (not too much, just a little) and then pull your finger over the bristles so that the little dops splatter onto the lure. Practice on scrap paper first to get a feel for it. The same effect can be done with an airbrush by reducing the air pressure so it barely comes out and then rocking the trigger until the droplets come out. That is called stippling. I use it on many of my patterns. A neat way to use it also is to try masking off areas with cut out stencils or even masking tape and then doing the stippling onto the exposed areas only. Once you pull the masks or tape away, you will have some really nice effects. Try it on scrap first and try using two or more different colours. Have fun and keep an open mind.
