Hey all,

I want to know anything you can tell me about the Ben-E-Bait 8" glider I recently traded for. An internet search has only yeilded the suggestion that it may have been made in Ohio, but nothing more. It's a nice, big bait, and I'd just like to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks.

I have a couple too and had never heard of them previous to getting some from someone on this board. I'm going to throw them in the pool next tuesday to see how they work.

Almost like a hughes river (at least the 10" one I had) but not quite the same shimmy and roll some of my hughes rivers have...great bait though...just like hughes rivers better....

Ben-E-Baits are made in Ohio. Cedar wood construction with stainless cotter keys. Each bait is cut, shaped, sanded, weighted and painted by hand. They have rattles and are double epoxy coated. I know this because I make them in my basement. I started making them because I couldn't see paying $50 or more for a lure that i can make for less than $10.

Ben,
I appreciate your reply; I knew that someone here could tell me, and it looks like I was right again. I'm looking forward to giving this bait a try this year. Do you market these through a store or at shows, or is it a thing of chance to happen on one? And what do your 8"ers typically weigh?

Eric,
No, I have not tried to market my baits. There was quite a few sold on eBay a year or two ago. Normally the only way to get them is through me. Like I said in my first post, every one is hand made. So they differ in weight and overall shape to an extent. No two are exactly the same. Normally they weigh 6 to 8 ounces. I spend most of my time fishing Leesville and Piedmont. We have caught a bunch of fish on them. I released 3 fish over 50" on these baits at Leesville, 50", 51" and my personal best of 52.5".

They have even made it to Ireland.... and have pulled some cracking fish in. Ben thanks for the customised lures.

I picked this up on ebay last winter, it a 10", the seller also had it little brothers 6" and 8". Killer paint job, I would almost rather hang it on my wall and just look at it.

Kicking myself now because I really like the baits and the 10" is sometimes on the large side.
