Posts: 154 Location: Appleton, WI | My former springer loved the water boats etc. This dog swam, kayaked, windsurfed you name she did it. Like others have mentioned she had a real hard time with top waters. She would stay in the boat if you had her on a "stay". I was out bass fishing in some pads and had a surface strike while I was training her. She was staying as instructed but the bass was flopping around caught in the pads. I was trying to get it out from where I was because it wasn't real big. She just could not take it anymore and over the side she goes, swims over to the splashing and proceeds to stick her head under the water grabs the bass and proceeds to start retrieving the bass. I retrive the line like crazy to keep it out of her way, she brought it to the boat gave to me at boatside and that was that. She also did the ice fishing raids that someone else posted except she would bring the other guys fish to you! After many retrieving episodes she became known as Maggie "The Retrieve All" We had to put her down last summer after 14 1/2 really good years. I am almost ready for another.

Posts: 262 | i took my dog out once on a small local lake also the first time i took my fiance musky fishing not the best desicion i ever made. my three year old pit would not stop barking at the wter the whole time we were out and trying to grb the baits when the came out of the water. finally gave up on fishing and chucked the dog in the water (he knows how to swim and likes it) for some reason he started sinking like a rock. As i started stipping off my boots to go in after him he comes up swims around the boat and climbs in up the ladder. then he's standing on the gunnel barking at the water agian instantly. so i chucked in one onf my bumpers for him to chase and off he goes. but the bumper was to big for him to get in his mouth so evrytime he tries to grab it he keeps pushing it out further towards the center of the lake, off come the boots again. he finally popped it and got ahold of it and back to boat he comes. spent twenty minutes doing that and called it a day. dog slept great that night but he's not allowed in the boat anymore to hyper. cheers

I used to have an English Springer who would always curl up in the net to sleep. Now we have a Yellow Lab, and on his maiden voyage he decided that the rear casting deck was the poop deck, and dumped a load the size of a muskrat house for me to clean up. I always have the proper release tools, but didn't have anything on board that was designed to handle that thing. So I had to improvise....sure do miss that hat. Beav
