Subject: Aquaculture & Fathead minnows

Nebraska is on the verge of possibly "losing" the 2008 year-class of muskies due to budget cuts at our primary rearing hatchery with the NE Game & Parks office.

Who knows anything about aquaculture as it applies to Fathead minnow production?

Obviously - a permit is required but, I'm looking for information on what it would take to raise 1000 gallons worth of fatheads a year, estimated initial costs to acquire stock, handling procedures, time to maturity, etc.

Thanks,

Brian

My nephew did work for his degree studying the impact of duckling survival rates in ponds that were used for rearing fathead minnows. He wound up working for the FEDS continuing the study after he graduated.
He just might know a couple of things about the topic. And, he's a Pointer.
