Ok I have down figure 8-ing a crankbait but when it comes to the end of the cast w/ a jerkbait or a topwater (walk the dawg) i'm not sure what to do. Do you just figure 8 it normal lake a crankbait or will this cause the fish to lose interest and turn around and go back the other way? Another thing is when figure 8-ing topwaters you submerge them don't you? I have seen bucher figure - 8 his topraider under the water and was Just wondering if you should do that w/ every topwater.

Thanks in advance.

With jerkbaits I try to keep about 1 1/2 feet of line out and just continue to "jerk" the bait around your figure 8. The best place to get bit with a jerkbait on a figure 8 is to let it do a rise just out from the boat say 10 to 20 feet before you get into your figure 8. Play with the bait in those last few feet to try to get the hit before your up tight to the boat.

On surface stuff, if the action of the bait lets you go subsurface that is a good idea, especially in clearer water. Walk-the-dog style baits can go subsurface as well at the boat and be used similar to a jerkbait, lots of erratic jerks with a couple of feet of line out. After dark, I always keep my surface stuff on top at the boat. The fish don't seem to care and I love the sound of that fish taking the bait at boatside. [:0]

How deep does everyone do thier figure eight? Just barely below the water or do you bend down and try to get it as deep as possible. Personally I try to get it as deep as possible, but is this maybe spooking fish from my extra movement to get the lure deeper?

Tough question 14.Sometimes I have had success just pulling bait out of water and flipping it back to land muskie, other times figure eight.0723
