Location: Verona, WI | I did a lot of reviewing in the forum for info on reels to pull XXs and XXXs and have a question - does anyone know what the difference between a 7000ics and a 7000ic3? To me they look pretty much the same except for their nomenclature and I want to make sure I am not missing anything. The 7000ic3 is a whole lot easier to find that's for sure.

I've wondered the same thing. I have gone over all the specs multiple times and cannot find a difference between the two reels. The iC3 seems to be the same reel with a price tag of $30 less. Cant see any reason to not buy that one
That said, I just bought an iCS Pro Rocket that I got a good deal on. |

| Not familiar with the ICS but know about the IC3. Some guys may disagree but "FOR THE MONEY", I don't think there is a better buy on a large baitcaster than Abu's 7000 series. They have the speed and power and of course the durability that todays musky anglers demand in throwing big baits. Higher priced reels can do the job, and they may be smoother and quieter if you want to shell out the cabbage. With that said, make sure you stick with the lower geared 4to1 ratio models for the big tails. Kdawg |

| The difference between the 2 is that the CS has shielded bearings to keep the water out. This is very important in salt water but not really an issue for fresh water. The CS also looks cooler if that means anything to you!
Another option is the 7000i which is red. These reels do not have bearings on the spool but instead use brass bushings. A lot of people think that brass bushing will not cast but if you keep them oiled you can hardly notice a difference especially with the size of baits we are talking about. |

Location: Verona, WI | I ended up going with the 7000ic3. Found it for $111 at tackledirect.com and with the $15 rebate on any Abu C3/C4 reel it will end up at $96. Seems like a good deal to me.

I talked to the Abu people and the difference between the 2 is not only in the bearings , the line guide on the 7000ic3 is stationary on the cast and the 7000ics guide line goes back and forth.

| DH, I don't know who you talked to but the information you were given was wrong. The line guide moves back and forth on all 7000's except the CT models which are surf casting models and do not have line guides.
THe SSC3 model is the same as last years 7000C3 with a push button. The 7000SSC3 is no longer made but the other SSC3's are still being made. |
