I got a gift card from Bass Pro and am wanting to pick up a couple trolling rods. I have heard good reviews of their catmaxx rods and shimano tdr. Anyone have a preference on either or dislike one of the two?

mike those e-glass catmaxx rods are awesome, if you go to the bps website and go to the clearance page you will see a very sweet deal on those right now!

the tdrs are great rods for the money as well...i am considering selling my 10ft st croix trollers because they cost so much and buying a couple of tdrs to replace them.

Second on the CatMaxx rods - they have a nice feel and a nice load

What model do you recommend for general purpose trolling? One of the 40# rated ones? I will probably pull some relatively heavy baits and planer boards at times.

Would these rods work for Legend Plows?? If not, what do you recomend for large lures like these??

As John said, the 8'MH are a decent rod for the price. I've run Plows and Little Wishmasters on those rods with no problems.

The 8' TDRs are 2 piece, I believe. The catmaxx is 1. I think I will go TDR to make storage easier. I am suprised the MH is the way to go over the H. I will take your word though. Thanks for the help.

ive never used the heavy in the catmaxx...so i dont know how they are, my st croix trollers are heavy though....the catmaxx is a pretty beefy rod in the mh...they do make the catmaxx in 2 pc also but i think only the 11ftr is on clearance. the tdrs id probablly go with the heavys

If you like to run with your tips in the water to catch floaters, I love the 9ft 2pc CatMax rods. They are very heavy and don't double over with the tips in the water.

I have run five inch tuffs all the way to 14 " plows on my 7,6" cattmaxx rods and they work very well even in the bitter cold . There actully cheaper than the plow you'd be pulling .
