Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | Here's one mislabled as a pike eating a trout. It's actually a small tiger musky. Check out how big the prey is compared to the musky!!! Big baits anyone???

Posts: 1185 Location: Iowa | These videos are exactly why I stronlgy believe in the big bait theory...a muskie/northern will eat something 40% of it's body size...if not bigger...so a 40" esox with eat a 16" presentation...so my 12" - 15" baits are not so crazy after all...sure they won't do this all the time but they will still do it...a 50" will eat a 20" bait, 55" eats a 22" bait...and so on and so forth...12"+ baits what?...guess I am not as crazy as most of you think... Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | That video is awsome! I saw a few other real good ones on YouTube the other day too. Posted one on the Basement board of a pike eating a pike about 1/3 to 1/2 its length. Does not even care about the divers swiming with it. No fear! James I have a whole page of pics devoted to muskies and pike eating large fish too. Videos are much better though.... That video gives you a good look at what Redhorse actually look like. The narrower profile of the trout probably seemed to look like a more suitable target to that fish, because it would take a mouth wider than his to fit one of those redhorse in it. The onlything red on a redhorse is it's fins....at least the ones that I've seen.

Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | There are several varieties of "Redhorse" including River Redhorse, Golden Redhorse,V- lip Redhorse, Black Redhorse, Silver Redhorse and probably more. The River Redhorse is the one with the Silvery body and the bright red fins. The other fish in the video are not suckers. Edited by Musky Snax 2/23/2007 9:10 AM

Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | Hmm... that one is a tough call. The tail has the rounded lobes of a pike but the colors sure do look like a hybrid. Juvenile pike have a very similar look at that stage too.

Check out how big the prey is compared to the musky!!! Big baits anyone??? I think the fish that swim in the beginning of the video are roach and don’t know if you have in your continent. We have lot of them in Europe and big pike eat them. Could be a good idea for your great realistic copies? We have many young pike (lot of variations) that are very similar to tiger muskies too…

Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | Yeah, I believe that it is a European pike and not a tiger musky as I thought. I stand corrected.

Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | I have a feeling that they do this throughout their adulthood as well. They need a lot of calories to fuel those long bodies and snacking on smaller baitfish will only sustain them for so long. When the water temps are climing and their metabolism increases, that is likely when they gorge themselves like this. I don't believe that they eat like this all season long.

Mike where was the Tiger video from? A tiger eating a Brown trout sounds Colorado.

Posts: 680 Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | Will, it appears that the fish is actually a juvenile European pike. The other fish in the footage were identified by someone as Roach which are native to Europe. Based on the small size of the pike, it would have those markings still as it has not yet matured. I was mistakenly thinking it was a tiger musky as were many others who commented on the Youtube site.
