Random quote: My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.

Does anyone test lures out in a pool? And if you do, how do you get access? I am sure that some places would be concerned about hooks and swimming areas. Just curious, I have a new lure I want to test up and Kenosha is frozen pretty good. Thanks!

Last time I used my hot tub I had to take my wife to the hospital to get a hook removed from her.....well never mind.

I think the YMCA would freak out about someone coming in with hooks to throw in their pool. I wonder if a hotel would mind during the week???

I tried to get into the local school pool, no dice, they had a million excuses not to let me, but it just so happens I remembered about a hot spring nearby that is about a 1/2 acre in size, works out great after I shag the 300 ducks and geese off of it.

I called the local hotel with a pool and explained I make topwater lures and in the winter I need a place to "water test" them before shipping. The guy said as long as nobody was in the pool room area I could come anytime, but I have usually gone after hours on the weekends.
Most of the time now I go just below the hydro power plant at Lake Alexander on the weekends during the daytime. It is closer to the house and even when it is real cold there is always open water.

I have a great spot by my house. I am in Bemidji, but the schoolcraft river coming out of plantagenet doesn't freeze. ever. Although I get some strange looks when its 20 below and i am standing up on the culvert casting musky lures! Anyway, my point is, look for a river.

The Kenosha harbor opened up, I was down there today. Nice day to be out. I think next year I might find a hotel with an indoor pool and ask them. Thanks everyone.

I guess I'm lucky. The Mississippi River below Lock and dam #1 is less than five minutes from work. It's nice and clear right now with a sandy shoreline to test out baits. If you guys have a river with a fair amont of current nearby go give it a try. There should be some open water.

I use a local park that has a small lake.
