Anyone try testing lures in an aquarium? I just acquired (for free no less) a huge aquarium 18"x48", and I thought I might be able to rig up a pump in a way to simulate the current going by a crankbait when its retrieved. I've seen similar things at sports shows. My goal would be tyesting the wobble of new crankbait designs and weights. Any ideas, thoughts, pitfalls...am I nuts?

The problem with using it for muskie lures is that you've got to get some real current going in there for a bait to work. Think about what 3-5 mph of current would be like in a fish tank. I don't know where you'd get some pumps that could push the water in a measured amount, and then you'd have so much turbulence I don't know if it'd work. If you can figure out a way of doing it without it overflowing let us know!

I know now never to stick an empty paintball gun's barrel in an aquarium full of water and pull the trigger......man what a mess, glass and water everywhere!!

I use my daughter's aquarium all of the time, but just to check the balance and the drop rate. You can't test the action without having real water to cast it in. Too bad even Lake Michigan freezes.
