| I've got a spool of 100lb Climax fluoro that I bought to try and make leaders with. Apparently my knot tying skills are nonexistent.
For those that make their own fluoro leaders, do you prefer crimps over knots or vice versa? If so, why? I find it is next to impossible to change out a snap with knotted fluoro leaders since the knot is snug with the snap (this also creates annoying and possibly damaging/weakening line twist).
Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here. Nightmare's thread on making glider leaders got me thinking again, which I've been told isn't such a good thing...
And where does everyone go for their components (crimps, snaps, round nosed pliers, crimping tool)? Can the round nosed pliers and crimping tools be purchased at a hardware store and still function properly for this application?

| For 100# I tie the leader. How are you getting twist? What type of knot are you using? I attach the swivel to the snap and tie the swivel to the Flouro, then you can change out snaps as needed. I never do because if the snap is getting weaker then the Flouro probably is too and I just tie a new one.
Hope this helps,

Location: Waukesha, WI | I don't use crimps since I had a quick-strike rig break at one. I tie 70# with the uni-knot and I lightly brush on locktite. Spro swivels and snaps. |

Location: Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan | I use 80 lb fluoro with a 150lb test #4 ringed bb swivel to your line and a coastlok snap to the lure. Snap size varies with lure choice. I tie everything with a palomar knot. They will never break. There is no need to use another swivel. Tie up several with different size snaps for different lures then you won't have to change out the snap, just change the whole leader. You can get all components at Stamina Tackle. http://www.up-north.com/stamina/sitemap.html
I have had sleeves break the line and crimps fail.....the knots won't fail. I have caught many muskies on this rig including several over 40 lbs and never had one cut or break the leader.
