Location: Columbus, Georgia | I have heard some Musky veterans who have expressed their opinion that throwing baits with squirrely tails during winter or early spring months (before the water has warmed and the fish become more active) will actually result in the fish shying away. The thesis here that because the fish are still somewhat sluggish they do not prefer baits with all of that fluttering activity.
I recently received an order of the new Squirrely Tailed SS Shads to add to my collection of SS Shad's without the tails.
It's almost a reflex for me to order the new and enhanced rubber-tail models of already proven baits, thus thinking the more movement (the tails) the better, though I am not so sure that this logic has any basis in fact (other than my own automatic thought that a tail on anything might make it better).
What do you guys think? Is there a time for the "tailed" versions and times for the original versions?????
