Posts: 734 Location: Watertown, MN | Rules of thumb is replace all split rings on new dawgs, they had a bad run and I just don't trust the quality of them. Lots of horror stories on stock rings. Buy new dawg Remove hooks and rings Bucher or Wolverine Splits 7/0 Hooks HANG ON!!!!!!!! Troyz

Posts: 299 Location: Ontario, California | I have a 17 ounce bait I throw for Largemouth. I wish you the best of luck with throwing that bad boy. Not that I'm saying you can't throw them... You'll need a bionic thumb to hold the spool when casting. I will tell you if I can throw them on the big pond.... I will.

Hey Pointer, is that a can of Tag Body Spray in the first 2lber photo? That plus the big dog might get you a big girl, whatever the species... C

Posts: 401 | Public service announcement. BREAKING NEWS Diamondback is not made for pounders or two pounders. As a rod builder, the thought of using either of those lures with a Diamondback makes me start to feel ill. You are a sure winner Nelson if he does.

Posts: 401 | I think the XXXH St Croix I had built at the show could throw it or that graphite/glass combo I had at the show. I would use the glass stick...then you would still have a soft tip. Keith

Posts: 8788 | I think using the term "break" doesn't do justice to what would happen to graphite under those conditions. Glass catfish rod? Maybe. Might need to get into glass rods for saltwater applications for casting that thing...

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Chris H - 1/15/2007 8:05 PM slimm - 1/15/2007 7:28 PM Make sure you replace the splitrings. Ask dadson about the docudrama SJ put on for him with his brand new giant bulldawg...... Ryan I was there with SJ for a "real life" demonstration on the Pond last summer of the reason to replace the rings on the Dawgs, watched a 50+ inch fish swim away with a treble on my girlfriends son's line......and an open split ring in hand in the boat. Talk about a buzz kill..... Look at the pics on post #1, the rings look tiny! Chris Double split ring them. A size 5 will fit into a size 7, but I would try to find a size 9 and put that into a size 7. I'm just not sure if that size is available? If you don't understand, let me know and I'll post a picture to illustrate.

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | I realize this bait is big, but I think its getting blown out of proportion...I'm not throwing a bowling ball! I'm really not all that worried about throwing this bait. I think I'll have no problem throwing this bait equipment wise.....personal health wise, that might be a problem! What's another herniated disc if I catch a 50? HAHA!

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Here's a #5 inside a #7 split ring - called double ringing. Just remember to be two sizes apart. Also you have to have room for the two rings. Just not quite enough on this reg BullDawg. Later Gerard Attachments ---------------- doublesplitring1.JPG (31KB - 151 downloads)

Posts: 2378 | Anybody looking for a rod to cast the 2 Pounder, Pounder, or even the Mag Dawg needs to check out the video we shot in Milwaukee this weekend. I gaurantee you will NEVER put this much pressure on a rod while fishing. The rods Keith is building on the XXXH blank are simply awesome. Extremely powerful, yet still enough action in the tip to not give fish any leverage. I cant wait to get mine. http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=32... Check out the Professional Edge video near the bottom Edited by BALDY 2/12/2007 11:31 AM

Posts: 355 Location: Wausau, Wisconsin | I "threw" the 2 pounder in the tank at Milwaukee...it can be done! It was nicer when Hulbert carried it to the other end though. There are rods coming that will suit the bait just fine. I spoke with my tournament partner Mark Gillich on the phone today and he intends on throwing them alot...we'll see.
