Greetings,

I have used a Lowrance Global Map 100 handheld for 10 years now, and have never had a reason to upgrade.... til now. After buying a boat unit that takes SD cards, I would like to get the information of my handheld and onto a card and import the waypoints/icons into my LCX-25c in the boat. I have been trying to contact Lowrance with this question, but haven't gotten a response on it yet. I do have software that came with the Global Map, back in the day, but I cannot seem to get the info from it, to a card. If anyone can help me simplify this process, I would greatly appreciate it. I have so many waypoints on that handheld from over the years, that I'd like to get onto my boat unit, and would hate to just have to leave them 'behind'.

Thanks in advance.

Here's what I did.

I connect to the GPS via the computer. Brought up the way points and printed them out on to a paper (via the printer). Now you have the coordinates that you have stored. Take the printout and go to yuor new GPS and mark waypoints with your cursor and save, giving it a name. Might take some time, but it works. I couldn't find another way.

The best would be to download onto a SD card and put that into your unit. i'm not sure if that possible?

I should have said mark waypoints with you numbers gathered off the printout. But if your cusor gives you number as well as the area, you can do it the other way as well. Sorry about that.

Good luck.

Shep, any more insight on this??? I don't want to retype all of my waypoints and icons into my new unit. that said, I was able to get all of my waypoints/icons off of my Global Map onto the GDM 16 program, but now they are in the .LOW format, and I beleive the new units need the data in .urs format. UUGGHHH! There must be a way.... I guess I have until May....

Do you have MapCreate? This works. Otherwise, I'll be out that way in April, and we can get it done then.

Otherwise, the new GDM software might work. Open the file, and save it as USR.

OK, Jason.

If you don't have MapCreate, which may have come with your new unit, you can download GDM6, and use it.

Start GDM6, and open a GPS Data file. You can select the file type as shown. Pick you file, and open it, and then save as a .urs file. You can then move, or save that to a SD card.

Here a pic to help.

Thanks a ton Shep. One problem. i have been messing with the Lowrance site all morning and I cannot install GDM 6 for the life of me. I uninstalled GDM 16(the only other Lowrance software I have) too, and it still won't work. Give it a try from your comp. once and see if it works for you. The installation process goes to 100% and then I get a catastrophic failure message saying it will terminate install.....ARRGGH. that said, I think I'm close. Thanks for your help thus far man.

I think I had that problem before, but yesterday it worked. Make sure all programs are off, especially Office, or Antivirus. Or try the stand alone installer. If that doesn't work, we'll get together next time I'm at the MIL's, and we'll get them converted.

I have a similar question. I have a handheld with a Navionics chip that I am planning to sell so I can get a new unit. Can I save my waypoints to the Nav chip or do I need a blank MMC card?

10-4 dude. I'll try the tips first. Maybe I'll be able to get it on another computer. Later.

Baldy, from what I understand you should be able to save to the Nav chip as long as there's room for it. Just make sure you do not overwrite the old files. When you save it should ask you to name the file. If it doesn't, I'd be really careful. If you're not careful, you could end up writing your waypoints over the Nav files and lose them. Worst case scecario you buy a new Nav chip, but it sure would suck.

Hint, watch Walgreens sales. I bought a SanDisk 512sd card (actually 3 of them) for 14 bucks each when they were on sale there. Normally like 45 or so each. That way I've got a spare blank one for my Lowrance if I want/need to save or transfer files.

Thanks Theedz. Sounds like I might just be better off buying a blanks one instead of risking it.

That's what I would do. They have a no tolerance policy at Navionics. If you mess up the chip, they will not replace it.

Don't try saving info to a navionics chip. I have been warned by Lowrance that I'd erase the contents if I tried this. Buy the blank SD.

Jason,

Do you have MapCreate 4 on your PC. If so, that is why GDM6 won't load, I bet. But you can use Mapcreate 4 to do the same thing.

Congrats on the new boat!
