Anybody have any good advice/tactics for a first time ice fisherman? I've been out before and have had good luck with pike on the ice but i was wondering what would be good tackle (rods, baits etc..) to start out with as well as where muskies hold during the winter?

Thanks

First, you have to be where fishing muskies through the ice is legal.

Then, fish them like you would Pike.

I've caught muskies through the ice in the areas that I fish for walleye. Most of these I lost, as I had an 8 lb mono leader on for the finicky walleye. These fish were located at the inlets to lakes where there was some current, in 3-10 ft. of water. Try tip ups with large fatheads, golden roaches, or suckers. Use a smaller size treble hook, and hook the minnows behind their dorsal fin. Enjoy!
