I,m looking at a new boat (used)The guy is selling it for a friend .He don,t know if it is 2 or 4 stroke.Is there some way to I.D. the motor by looking at the serial# or something.Its a 1995 Mercury 60 horse..Thanx.

Not sure in what year Mercury first made a four-stroke engine. Probably a two stroke, but it can be identified by the number.

i am not sure merc. even had a 4 stroke in 95,phone a dealer and ask him.

The 2 stroke will have an oil tank in the cowling, with a sight tube in the front. The fill cap should be on the upper left front of the cowling.

I'll be around most of the weekend. Look for me at ROI next to Smokey's, Fig Rig, or over by the Tuffy boats. And don't forget the swap meet and social Saturday evening.

run the motor with some ear muffs on it. If you can taste the gas and get smoked out it's a 2-stroke.
