| When do you decide to get a replica?
Fish over a certain length?
Is it girth?
Unusual markings?
Special circumstances surrounding the fish?
For me these would probably do it:
1. Just a super giant fish -- 50 pounds, 53", etc
2. A big (47"/48") tiger
3. A super fat fish with really nice markings, even if it wasn't over 50"
But a beat up, skinny 52" fish with no markings? I might not want a replica. Not saying I wouldn't be excited as heck to get a 52" muskie of course, but I'd really have to think hard about spending that sort of money on a replica.

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I would say it would need to be a minimum of 50 inches, adequate girth to make it look proportionately nice, and decent markings. I'm still looking for that 50, so if it is a good one, it will be done...

| I got a replica for Eric on his big fish a couple years ago. I got my first 50 this year, and I haven't really thought about getting one made. It was a nice fat fish, and certainly memorable. Maybe I will, maybe not. |

The best thing about a repo is you dont need to decide right now. If someday you decide you want to, go ahead.
I got a picture of a 30" Walleye caught 3 years ago that I just may get repo'd some day. |

| I'm hoping I win one of the several repo contests I'm in this year to get my 52.5 done...if not, I'll get that fish done soon...I havea 45" pike from Canada I caught I'd also like to get done someday.... |

Location: The desert | Not sure I will ever get a replica. Yeah they are cool no doubt about that, but a picture does just enough justice for me. I'll take the $300 or more I would spend on getting a fish done and put it somewhere else. |

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | I have a 51.5 at Fittante's right now. Its all a personal decision though, if someone wanted a 34"er done, more power to them.
Pointer, if they were only $300 I would have more than 2 on the wall, $14 bucks an inch adds up really fast. Maybe we should all start getting small fish repo'd to save some cash. |

| i'd always had the following plan in mind:
- 40" pike
- 45" tiger
- 50" muskie
they say that if you want to hear God laugh, make a plan...
i didn't have bass and walleye on my list and lo and behold i popped "accidental" replica-worthy fish of those species in addition to my big muskie this year.
Rick Lax is working on the muskie and walleye for me right now. can't wait to pick up the muskie at the Madison show! the bass will have to wait, too much strain for the budget in one year! the Muskie Bar in the basement has open spots all ready for them on the wall.

Location: The desert | See....I dont even know how much they cost! $14 bucks an inch? Holy Mackaral! That drives a 50 incher to $700! I think I'll just hang a picture on the wall in a nice frame for $50 I'll keep the other $650 and put it in the bank!
I have nothing against people getting a fish hung on the wall. I think it looks great! But in my mind I cant justify dropping that amount of money to hang a fish on the wall. Then again I may never have more than $700 in my bank account so it would be a moot point! |

Location: Ogden, Ut | That's a good frame of mind to be in PP102 as you embark on your career in the natural resources field - hahahhaaha!...pictures for me too.
I can attend a whole outing on the money I save by not having a replica done (flight included RichW!). For those that choose to have them done, I am envious and will no doubt admire the work, but it's not currently on my personal priority list. Of course, I've not boated a fish I thought worthy of a replica either...

| I don't think that I'll ever get one.
As long as I have a couple of cameras on board, and I get a good picture, it will just join the rest of them on the wall of 8 x 10's and deer heads and other memorobillia that I have right now. I have a stringer of walleyes from 8 1/2 - 11 1/4 that I caught in Vilas in the 70's and now wish I never would have had them done, and a 44"er that swallowed a 6" Bobbie, that still has the Bobbie in it's mouth. 2 moves later and broken fins....forget it. I'll go with pictures. In fact, the newest thing is the 3-D pictures that I have where the guy mounts the picture on 3/4" colored plexiglass, and then cuts it so it is free-standing, or he'll cut around you and the fish so you stand out from the background and it takes on a 3-D effect. Much more affordable and just as memorable as a repro.

And that includes burgers for like 12 to 14 guys in that little bar in P.I. Man, that place was, shall we say, affordable.
Isn't it possible to have an actual size print of a musky done? I think I would like a life size picture better than a replica.

Not that replicas aren't cool, but I think I would like the print better. Brings the emotion of the catch into the equation, and also helps preserve our precious fiberglass resources.
Instead of buying a bunch of musky crap for this season, I'm going to start looking for a camera and maybe a mount of some kind for it. Since I'm going to be a tag along for at least this next season, I would like to get a picture of any fish I catch that includes whoever was kind enough to make it possible. It would have been great to have Joel in the picture along with me and the 47.5" he made possible at the end of last season. It was probably more his fish than mine. All I did was reel it in.
Maybe if I ever catch one casting I'd feel a little different.
