Location: Davenport, IA | 8' st croix premier..is a little over that. Professional edge makes a lower price rod that is pretty nice from what I understand. I have a cabela's fish eagle rod that is a nice action for bucktails but is only 7'6". |

Location: Hayward, WI | I haven't used one yet, but plan on buying a Gander Mountain IM-8 8' rod this year. I fished with a guy that has one and it really launches standard sized bucktails. I think these sell for about $80. They might not be the rod for the really big bucktails, but if you are looking for a rod to handle the typical couple ouncers, it should work well.
Maybe not the BEST rod out there, but pretty nice for under $100.

| For about $120 you could get the Fenwick 8' HMX which is a nice rod for buctails and cranks. |

Location: Columbus, Georgia | The Shimano Compre line of rods run about $110 @. I fished the 8 footer last season. I have also fished with the St. Croix Premier series rods and found them to be noticeably heavier than some of the others out there, including the Compre line.
When I am casting for hours at a time, I am very aware of the weight of the rod and the fatigue factor involved.
That being said ... the Premier series is made to withstand a lot of wear and punishment.
