Looking at purchasing either Lowrance LMX-111c or Hummingbird 987c . I've had a LCX-15 for a couple of years with no probems. I'd like to go bigger and with color. I'm leaning towards the 111 . Anyone have any opinions? Thanks Rick Lax

Can't speak for the Hummingbird but I have been using the 111 for a year now and can't speak highly enough for it. Just an FYI the 111 has been discontinued and replaced with the 113.

Another question is do you need a 111/113 or can you get by with a 110/112? MAny people do not really care for the mapping software on the 111/113 and still buy other chips. I use the built in saftware but for some lakes I prefer the LakeMaster chip.

I run lowrance on my bow and deal with the GPS constantly losing position.. I have the Hummingbord 987c on my dash and is the best unit I have ever owned.. Steve H. suggested the Hummingbird to me last year, and I am 100% happy with the unit.. If I had the cash I would switch out the lowrance on the bow for another 937c, awsome unit...

I would definitely go with the Lowrance! Had lots of opportunities to use this unit this past summer and I think that will be one of my next units for the boat. I don't really have too much experience with the Hummingbirds, but I know there good units but the Lowrance's are the Cadillac of sonar units hands down. Plus, Lowrance has a great customer service and they will take care of you if you have any problems. But I would highly suggest the Lowrance, you can't go wrong with any of there units! Just my .02.

jclymer, Is your bow mount unit a 334 or does it have an external antenna? If it has an external anttena how close is it to you graph?

What I have seen is bass fishermen use hummingbirds and walleye guys use Lowrance. Walleye guys generally use there graphs much more than the bass guys do.

I have a 3500c internal antena and a LCX 26C on my bow and both GPS's do not compare to the Hummingbird... I guess I perfer a GPS that will lock into your position and I would say my Lowrances lose position AT LEAST once per day.. Hummingbird has never lost position..

I don't have any statiscal anaylsis on what walleye guys use vs. Bass guys, or who uses there graph more, however I do know that Hummingbird will be the only unit that will go in my boat again.. Lowrance has had the name for years, but kinda like Vexilar, never changes technology..

I'm moving to Humminbird. The side imaging technology is really the best as it really allow one to get the best look at bottom structure on either side of te boat. Lowrtance is good but it's yesterday's technology.

Johnny, Have you used the Hummingbird with the side scanning yet? I have not tried it yet but it does sound interesting IF it is actually readable. I'd be interested in hearing from people who have actually used one.

Does the Hummingbird use the MMC chips like Lowrance? I have lots of chips and I would like to know if the you need the chips for the Hummingbird. I have chips for LOTW and Vermilion etc. Both Lakemaster and Navionics.

Thanks-

I had an older Navonics chip that did not work with the Hummingbird.. The new Navonics and and lakemaster chips work great...
A really good source to find very specific information on this unit is to post on Musky hunter.com

Steve Heiting used the 937c 2 years ago and now uses the SI and he will have all the specifics on the unit.. If you post and put the hummingbird SI in the title of the post or attn Steve Heiting, I am sure Steve will reply to your post..
I know if your a chevy guy it may be hard to switch to a Toyota, but sometimes the change is worth it..

Had the Lowrance 25c on my 2006 and loved it. My 2007 will be rigged with 110.

From what I have seen, these are simply the top of the line. Lowrance all the way.
