Anyone know where you can find replacement rubber bands for the musky mania lift off rigs? I've checked hobby stores, wal-mart, and shopko but no luck yet. Thanks for the help.

You can get them from amazon.com... just do a search for size 8 rubber bands. i just ordered some... I think you get like 1200 in a box for 1.32... then like $5 shipping. You can also check restockit.com... i think that is where amazon gets the shipment from.

I get them from my dentist. A bag of ortho bands will last quite awhile. Someone mentioned to nick the band a bit to make it break easier and that works great.

You can use rubber bands that are a little bigger too that you can find almost anywhere, you just need to twist them a little more and as long as they are not "thick" they bring quite easy too! I have used many different sized ones and they all seem to work.

Yes, Rollies has them. I think I bought a couple packs of 10? for a buck a pack. These are the generic bands that you can get from Wallgreens, but they have sorted them out from the bigg ones.

If you nick the dental bands, they work the best. Like breaking the surface tension, they are strong, but break when you want them to.

I buy the small "pony tail" rubber bands from places like kmart, shopko, etc.

Scunci is one brand. they work great.

Jono

If you're talking about what I think you are I am really confused...

How do you break them setting the hook? And how do you get them through the suckers nose?

They aren't the fabric ones with the metal crimp. These are all rubber and small diameter.

They work great!

I just got some through a website that sells orthodontic supplies. I got 2 packs of 100 for $1.50 ea. Shipping was $.63 so the total came to $3.63. Size was 5/8". One pack was medium strength and the other was heavy strenght . I've used them both the last couple of times out and both seem to work equally well. The website was www.jawproducts.com.

I have been to dollar stores, dentist offices, walmarts, walgreens, office depot, office max and any other place you can think of that would carry rubberbands, and have NEVER found the mania style rubberbands.

Personally I wouldnt use the hair bands. I found them to be way to hard to break and typically just pull through the nostril of the sucker. Same thing with the dental ones that are used for braces.

To be honest, I used to be a rubberband junky. I have asked bait shops to sell me the rubberbands out of the maina rigs and if they wouldnt I would buy the whole package just for the rubberbands. This went on for YEARS until this fall when I decided that enough was enough. It wasnt so much the rubberbands as it was keeping track of those dam bait needles, so I decided to go cold turkey..

I now tie my own custom rigs and instead of a rubberband, or LARGE hook like they use on some rigs, I use a small octupus hook that goes through the upper lip of the sucker. Seemes elementary, but one problem Ive found with similar style rigs is that they make the front hook adjustable. The hook on my rigs is set to a particular length and then crimped on both ends so it wont move. On the other end you can crimp on whatever kind of rig you choose. I buy my rigs from smokeys, cut off the seven strand and then crimp it on the end of my rig. Kinda cheesy, but whatever works, works. I only use one treble on my QS rigs and actually have a better hooking percentage than when I used 2. You can still tie on 2 if you prefer.

I have found that the sucker swims through the water more naturally and can be pulled along at much higher speeds if desired. The biggest thing was the awesome hooking percentages I got from using the small hook. What I realized is that the easier the hook/rubberband pulled out of the sucker the better hooksets I got. Not to mention how much better hooksets my begginer clients got.

I know some of you are die hard rubberbanders and I was too. One day I had 3 suckers on rubber bands and 1 on a hook rig. We caught 5 fish that day and 4 were on the hook rig. By the end of the week I had all 4 suckers on the new QS rigs and was kicking myself for not switching sooner..

take care
