| i was thinking of going to cave run in the spring. i was wondering where is a good place to stay and also when is a good time. i was hoping to go around march thanks. |

Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | I would stay at Tony Grant's place.
Very close to the ramps, and he is also on the south end of the lake which usually produced alot of fish during that time of year.

I have had my best success down there in mid March- mid April.

Location: Columbus, Georgia | The Lake View Motel is right next door to The Cave Run Pro Shop and Mike Tackett's T-N-T Guide Service. You can reach Mike at 606-780-0075. He and his guides pull plenty of big fish at the time that you are planning to go. Get a map of the lake and you will find that the previous suggestion puts you way down at the south end of the lake (actually a few miles up a channel in order to get to the main lake). http://www.caverunmuskyproshop.com/site/mod.php?mod=userpage&menu=1...
Caney Creek and Scotts Creek (two places you for sure need to fish at that time) are literally miles from the Long Bow Marina where you would be launching if you stay that far south.
I about 5 minutes from Cave Run Lake and would suggest staying somewhere that is located near the central part of the lake, thus providing you with the ability to get to any of the creek arms and channels with equal accessibility.
Many guys last season were throwing Hawg Teasers and Rattle Traps in March and catching some really big fish.

Location: Athens, Ohio | Lots of fish caught in the spring in Beaver Creek and the Licking River; a lot - of course - depends on water temps and conditions. Tony's place is real close to launches to those areas and his hospitality and evening consultations are unmatched in the area.
If you want a higher level motel, the Comfort Inn is just right off I-64 and has a great breakfast. m |

Location: Williamstown, WV | I would stay at the comfort inn right off of I64. Been there a couple times and only raised fish so good luck to ya. I hear rattle traps will do you well in the spring time. good luck and have fun.

Location: Columbus, Georgia | If you plan on fishing the Licking River channel off of the main lake, I suggest that you either carry a second lower unit with you, or be sportin' a Jon Boat.
There is a new GPS map (2006) that provides about 185 coordinates to take one from the main lake river channel to the Bangor boat launch a couple of miles away. Plenty of turns in the river where the map instructs you to proceed at "idle speed."
I have not yet raised the courage to take my boat in there.

Location: Athens, Ohio | Yeah, you'd be better off putting in at Poppin Rock or Bangor if you plan to fish the Licking without a guide. It's not that bad up there a ways and there's some great Spring spots between the two. I've had my Gambler up there before, you just can't run wide open like I'm prone to do.
Easy access from Tony's to these two ramps as well as my favorite launch at Clay Lick (dang, I hate those ramps at Alfrey and Scott Creek, that's a long walk up a steep hill at the end of the day!). Warix is pretty convenient, too.
Another website is trying to plan an outing in late March. Mid-Feb to early april (again, depending on conditions) is time to break out the rattletraps for muskies. That's fun. I hope you get to Rattle your Way to Spring Success! (see the articles section in MuskieFirst). m

| thanks guys going the last weekend in feb. was wondering what is a safe place to fish down there because i don't know the lake that well. you guys have any areas in the north that are worth fishing. the north end looks a lot easier to navagate than the south |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | We used to schedule a trip every spring to the Cave, but decided to let the other website have that one after they decided to plan an outing in the same general time frame to the same place so we didn't end up confusing those who were sponsoring the MuskieFIRST event.
Fishing was pretty good, those years where we didn't have extremely high water, with fish up to 50" registered. Mostly a shallow rattletrap type bite, but I did catch a couple on a glider. You should have a great time if the weather treats you well.
We may end up back at the Cave some Spring, Crash's Landing, the Comfort Inn, Tourism and the city of Morehead KY and Tony Grant treated us very well. |
