I have used the triple Wolverine split rings for a few years. I replace the factory rings on most of my baits, including spinner baits and bucktails. They make a quality strong split ring. I like the brass the best.

Good luck, Murph!

I use them quite often myself. It's either that or the double split rings that Hellraiser uses.

Hey Bill,

Are you asking about putting them on the front of them for attaching to the leader instead of using snaps? If that is what you are asking, the answer is yes. Use the largest triple ring that you can fit on the bait. The bigger the stronger!!

Bill,

We use them on all the baits at Musky Nut Tackle.

bill, why do they do this on the hellraiser baits? I see absolutely no use for the small ring.

Divani,
Pat did some research with these and from what I remember, when you have the dual split rings with one almost inside of each other, the pound strength is much higher even over 300#.

in most cases a standard split ring is sufficient. but let me tell you, it's a gut wrenching feeling to loose a nice fish due to any tackle failure. i was the inventor and original owner of the wolverine split ring, and did so because an estimated 47"er twisted a standard ring off. i'm not beyond human error, but can tell you the drag was set fine at the time, since it was the first thing i suspected, and immediately checked. lets face it SH** happens, so why not eliminate any weak links? i have nothing to gain by this post, and wish i could tell you how many similar stories i have heard during the 5+ years i owned it. just last summer it happened to paul klein when i was fishing with him! after sharpening the hooks,he started fishing with a new ernie(didn't change the rings) and had a fish he estimated at 46"s and around 25 lbs. wrench the black standard ring open. then he starts giving me crap about how "my" ring failed, until i showed him HIS error! had a good laugh for sure! i'll take cheap insurance like a better split ring any day if it helps me avoid musky-heartache!

Do you replace all your rings with the triples right out of the box then? Kind of like sharpening the hooks right out of the box??

theedz-
i look at lures as tools, and i want these tools to be as effective as possible to attract, trigger, hook, and hold muskies. so look at all the things that can be done... glitter or highlight the paint jobs, or add prismtape, then envirotex the lure for hardness and durability. add jb weight systems for lure versatility, depth and speed control- change hooks to a bigger or more heavy duty type, add twistertails to add flavor and eye appeal- and of course, add premium split rings. so i guess the answer is yes, i swap the rings immediately when i sharpen/change the hooks.
