Posts: 714 Location: Rhinelander, WI | I have been meaning to do this for awhile, but haven't found the time. The monster caught by Mr. Gelb has me jonesing for this again. Could someone with the skills and time please post the Pics off all the truly huge fish caught this year. Most of them have been posted here at one point or another, it would be cool to see them all in one thread. If you know the sizes please include. Thanks Nail A Pig! Mike

Posts: 714 Location: Rhinelander, WI | The album is pretty amazing, lots of awesome fish. What I was looking for though, is one thread with maybe the top 3 to 5 fish of the year. Basically all the fish that could go 45 pounds or more. Right now I can think of three I am pretty sure there are more. Gelb’s fish, the huge one from, I think Nippisig (sp?) and the one caught with Steve J. I am sure there are more, but I am pretty sure the pics where all on this site at one point or another. If I get time I will try and search and get them all posted right after each other. Nail A Pig! Mike

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | I witnessed one taken on the Bay a couple weeks ago. Hoping to see some pics soon. It was kept, but not sure which taxidermist got it. It was also taken on a straight diver like Gelb took his on. Anyone have a pic of this fish? The dudes were in a newer Crestliner, and the fish measured 53" X 26". Posts: 299 Location: Ontario, California | I had the pleasure of netting a 52 x 27.... By the calculator, she went 47 pounds. The next day I got a 51 x 24.... Sad to say but there was no comparison with the size of the two fish.

You might want to check Luke Ronnestrand and Lee Tauchen's boats. Quite a few in the 45 to low 50 lb range. Gregg Thomas got a 47 pounder also I heard. They don't publicize their catches much though so the only way you might see those is at a sport show. I would have liked to have known how much that fish Scott Jenkins caught a couple years ago weighed. Ty

Posts: 714 Location: Rhinelander, WI | Here are what look to me to be the 3 biggest fish of the year. There may be more in this class but this is what I remember and have seen. All very awesome fish hard to believe they where all caught in the same year. Nail A Pig! Mike Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]()

You know it's a giant when you have to support the fish with an elbow under the belly instead of a hand. Still can't help thinking your list is incomplete without including the other 50lbers caught in central MN late in the season. Doubt you'll see photos posted to the net, but did see one - the photo of Tauchen's 55.5X27 - on Gillespie's show. That is one of several I've heard of from sources I consider reliable, but have been kept hush-hush to help preserve the fishery. These super-toads are what musky fishing is all about...BIG fish. Great photos and great thread. Brian

Preserve the fishery?????? For whom???? I hope you're kidding, because there were probably 10 muskie shows filmed out there this season alone.EVERYBODY wants a piece of Mille Lacs. Probably the most exploited lake in Minnesota , but Vermilion isn't far behind.Lets see some pics of these monsters or will we have to wait to buy the video , or watch the show, or buy the magazine or go to the show booth.Just a fish.

Posts: 299 Location: Ontario, California | Didn't work the first time... I'll try again. Here's a picture that a freind sent me. From what he said it was 52.5 x 28.5 and weighed 53 + pounds. He said it was released and was caught out of Erie. Other than the info I gave, I know nothing else of this catch. Nice fish though. Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 714 Location: Rhinelander, WI | Some awesome fish! I am sure there are more out there. I haven’t seen Lee’s fish or the other huge fish from MN. How about the “Larry” have there been any ginormous fish from out East this year? There always is! The three I posted where what looked like the three largest "I have seen" not trying to say anything more than that. No doubt that Howards fish is also HUGE. Man I love big fish pictures. What I absolutely love about Gelbs fish is it gives all us Northern Wisconsin fishermen HOPE. I don’t have the time to fish MN or Canada for multiple weeks a year, heck I didn’t even have time for my yearly trip to LOTW this year. By seeing Mr. Gelbs fish and the fish from the Fox it puts truly large fish on the radar screen. Now the odds still aren’t high but we know they are out there. What a year for big fish, it is amazing!! Still looking for more pics. Nail A Pig! Mike

for obvious reasons, Lee told his own story over on The Next Bite. nothing to do with preserving a well-known and incredible fishery, just rightfully staying loyal to his "home" publication. i encourage you to read about it there. http://www.thenextbite.com/forum/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=8&Topic=419... these three fish were caught by Lee Tauchen, Steve Imhoff, and Matt Almendinger all on the same day in early November this year. Lee is speaking this Monday (12/11) at the Muskies Inc meeting in Madison - come on down and hear him tell you all about this year's fish in person. http://www.capitalcitymuskiesinc.org/events.shtml Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]()

Posts: 56 | Hey everyone, Thanks Lambeau for the information "swap" from The Next Bite to here. I have been just burried in paperwork and trying to get my first presentation done in Powerpoint with much help from the "better half" done in time for Monday night. Funny you got to this about two hours before I intended on putting it here myself. So, thank you! Also for the seminar plug. It sure has been an exciting season! I could not have imagined such an incredible year like this. But the bottom line is that it wouldn't be possible without the cooperative effort of muskie clubs, dnr, and us the fishermen! Yes, pat yourselves on the back. Without the release efforts of muskie enthusists and the continued education of new fishermen the future would not look so great. Keep in mind the continued education part...there are still things to be learned on this subject. As our muskie fisheries grow, we will continue to witness the true "Glory Days" of muskie fishing! Thanks again everyone for all the complements and keeping winter interesting. By the way, you might be right about Matt the actor...sure looks like him. Lee Tauchen
