Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | From what I've heard the gears aren't better then the calcutta's. Also, the levelwind doesn't move back and forth during a cast so backlashes are guaranteed.
Go with the Chronarch BVS. It has the TE gears and holds a little less line, but it's still good enough for small-mid sized baits. |

Location: On your favorite spot | I have a curado - absolutely no complaints with any of my Shimano reels - ever. Not really a musky reel though but I also have a cardiff that is awesome. I have not used it for cowgirls, etc. but I've thrown everything else. |

the levelwind disengages on the Chronarch's as well (i've got two), and backlashes are not "guaranteed". with the small spool width on the smaller reels there is no need for a non-disengaging levelwind because the slight angle created is not enough to impact cast performance.
bass guys have been using reels with disengaging levelwinds forever and they seem to manage alright...backlashes are more often the result of overcasting or oversized lures, not the levelwind.
the Chronarch's are great reels and i highly recommend them for small baits, but i'm considering replacing one of mine with a Curado this year to see how i like it as a less expensive alternative.
