Posts: 8831 | As I close the book on another season, a few things come to mind.... 1. I've learned a lot this year! Among the more notable lessons: A. Fish can swim faster than you can reel, and faster than you can figure 8 B. You can't set the hook too hard (unless you've snagged something) C. Don't buy cheap snaps D. Leaving a fish is a good way to let someone else catch it 2. Some positive experiences: A. First figure 8 fish B. Biggest fish casting C. Lots of laughs and good times 3. Some lakes I fished: Cave Run Oconomowoc Pewaukee Monona Waubesa Wingra Twin Valley Presque Isle Channel Catherine Marie Petite Webster Barbee 3. Some of the people I fished and made friends with from this site (why are so many musky fishermen named mike and Steve??) Andrew Golden (Slamr) Cory Painter (C. Painter) Brad Nelson (MskyHnr) Mike Kanaval (Toothy Critter) Mike Mosseau (Mosseau) Steve Crook (Muskyboy) Mike Moschell (Mikie) Steve Worrall (Sworrall) Steve Ruhmann (Muskie Junkie) Troy Schoonover (Bytor) John Deutinger (John MD) Mike Bolinski (Pointer Pride) Krishna Swamy (K-Bob) Thanks guys!! 4. It's not about how many fish you catch, how big they are, or how long its been since you caught one. It's all about time spent in great places with great people.

Posts: 3507 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Well said!! I have not had the opportunity to meet many from this site, but no matter what, this site is full of great people with an awesome amount of information. With the boat put away, I look forward to good discussion, banter, tales and chat. As I reflect back there are a few things that come to mind: 1. No matter how much we learn and apply, these fish have a way of humbling even the best muskie sticks 2. Time on the water with family and friends is worth more to me than catching fish 3. Personal best fish for some happen quickly..for others it takes years. Positive things: fishing for these fish since 1980, I finally broke 45 inches.... Attachments ---------------- ![]()

It's all about having fun, enjoying the outdoors, enjoying good company, and catching a mighty musky once in awhile. I fish year round now as much as I can and that has extended my traditional season by about 7 months LOL ![]()

Posts: 723 | As I reflect back...... the season started off a bit slow, lots of missed opportunities, some good fish right away, but, then a lull of actionless days. I went to canada for my first time, lost 15 fish in 3 days before I ever got one to the boat. after that we still finished the week with 12 legals, well, wisconsin legals anyway. A great trip, but too short. This fall was the biggest eye opener I've had in a while, we have put our time in on our home waters now for about 6 years, and it finally paid off big time. I had made a new bait this year that just mopped up on skies this fall. between 2 baits I caught over 25 fish in the month of october, We had 2 phenominal days on top of that with one day resulting in 13 and the other 15 fish for the day. The 13 fish day I caught 10 on my own. You couldn't slap the smile off my face!!! ![]() I by far had my best season ever, I finished with 42 legals with 3 over 30 lbs, and my partner finished with 48 legals, a lot of the people I fished with this year had their best year so far also. pretty much all coming from our home waters october thru november. that in my eyes has told me that putting our time in out there had finally come full circle. (and that our DNR has managed to create a great fishery). Way to go Kapuscinski! too bad you aren't hear to see it. If there is one lesson that I walk away with this year, besides all the great fun I had fishing with friends and watching them catch their most fish or biggest for the year, I would have to say sticking to what you have confindence in, putting your time in on the water will eventually pay off big time. Now I know most of you can say, people get lucky or were in the right spot at the right time, but the days we did the best, were the days we came to the landing and talked to guys who got skunked. Just goes to show us that persistance pays off. And realizing that everyday, no matter the conditions, fish will eat, you just have to find where and what. the rest if just fishing. congrats to all who had a great year, anyone that had tons of fun fishing with new people, and to those who don't give up. Those rewards are bigger than money or fame can ever be. Now, we have all winter to prep for next season. Making baits, musky shows, and many many stories, still don't help pass that long expanse of ice and snow. ![]()

Dogboy, You made a VERY good point...you talked to alot of people who had their best year EVER! Why is this?? Because of many people on this board, the Musky Hunter board, Muskies Inc., etc. We are letting these fish go, and this makes our muskie fishing life a whole lot nicer. Fishing is better, and the muskie is no longer the fish of 10,000 casts!! Keep letting em' go....and they'll keep growing. Donnie ![]()

Posts: 227 Location: Southeast Wisconsin | Theres so many high points that it would be impossible to name them all, but heres a few.. 150 fish over 30" boated!!!! We lost 3 fish on wed so I had to go back out today and at least try for #150..45 minutes into it I hook up with a 33 incher to seal the deal..Just to remind me that the musky are fully in control and keep me fired up for 2007, I lost another fish just as I was packing up LOL.. Getting my Dad his first ski!! All the people that caught there first ski with me.. Best year size wise. Best year client wise. Best month, 50 fish boated (November) Best year equipment wise. Getting my first double by myself! The many "4th quarter comebacks" and "sudden death victorys" LOL I am truly blessed to be able to fish as much as I do and treasure every moment on the water (even the skunk days) Im amazed at how much I learn every year and what an impact it makes on the following season. Many, many thanks to all my sponsors and clients for making 2006 a dream season.I look forward to an even better year in 2007!! Have a safe and happy holiday season!! Posts: 1106 Location: Muskegon Michigan | Another best year from us here at the Talonz Wooden Lure shop. My wife Michelle and I boated 223 Muskies over 30 inches with 5 over 30 lbs and three of those over 51 inches. We lost track of how many over 40 inches. My wife is the 2006 Muskies inc Womens division champion with 103 Muskies and two fish over 51 inches. Her best was a 34.4 lb 52 incher. We traveled nearly 12 thousand miles and fished over 20 different lakes from January 1st to last week. We were on the water at least two days out of every week for the entire year. Our best days were 17 muskies casting in western Ontario during late August and twin 52 inchers in one October day on Lake St. Clair. We watched as our new Talonz Slashers exploded for hundreds of St. Clair Muskies in their debut year and even watched as one of our Blue frog Slashers was the winning lure in a tournement. 2006 saw us secure contracts with Lakeside tackle in St. Clair shores, Pastikas in Hayward and Pro tackle Musky shop and Wallys baits in Ontario. 2007 should be even better for the new baits with Pastikas carrying our entire product line up at the winter shows. The biggest thing I learned this year was to go for your dreams and trust God to make them reality. Livin the dream, Kingfisher

Posts: 32930 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Ranger, I hear ya, but what the hey. Someone has to grab the brass ring once in awhile and hold that slippery devil till it turns oval. I had a great year. Sue and I fished more this year than last, catching quite a few more muskies in the process. I fished more guiding, more with MuskieFIRST folks, and not enough with some others. Canada was fun. No monsters, but fun none the less. I had a couple seven fish days, and saw what I felt is a true 50# fish in Wisconsin; it chased a Wabull and confirmed what I suspected when I saw her last year. I caught more crappies, more bluegills, and more perch last winter, and will do that again this winter. The Hideout was occupied more, meaning more fire ring muskie talk and venison on the grill, and I hope it's occupied even more in 2007. All in all a great season even though the local guiding/fishing economy was tough, and that's how I make some of my living. This too shall pass, though, and things will look up in the near future.

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Unfortunately another years is done. Lots of things learned and observed in the boat this year though. The first is that Tuffy boats are way cool and the 1890 flat out ROCKS! I reaffirmed this year that fishing for fun is still way more fun than fishing as a job! I also realized fishing as a job aint all that bad either! ![]() Big fish show up in weird places, both structure wise and lakes! One of the coolest things that can happen is to have someone, but especially a youngster, catch their first musky in your boat. I also realized some things I want to do next year, and very few of them involve catching more or bigger (although that is always welcome.) I need to explore more and get on more new waters. I need to find time to fish with friends more often....Mr. Worrall, your tops on the list! I need to relax in the boat and not get so wound up over these #@$^% fish!

Posts: 401 | What a year. The folks that I got time to fish with this year made it the best year ever. The best was my 7 year old daughter. She casted and casted and casted with me this summer from the front deck of my boat. (lure with no hooks) I was leaving the dock one day without asking her to come along because she was playing with her friends in the resort. I was pulling away and happened to look back and saw her on the dock crying her eyes out. I went back and got her and she said "you know dad I would rather go fishing with you." That is the highlight of my summer. Hope all is well. Keith
