| I have a question Im going to be fishing til the end of december and then back at it in January I was wondering what I could do to make sure the lines dont freeze? Is there an alternative to winterizing the boat? What can I do I winterized it and got it srink wrapped last year but I just wasted money on it. Please HELP ME!! hahah anything to help will be great!! Thanks |

Location: Yahara River Chain | Put Stabil in the gas and make sure you drain the water out of the motor everytime you have it out. If you have livewells and can't drain them completely place some RV anti-freeze in them to keep from breaking the line and/or pumps.
To drain the motor, when you have your boat loaded at the landing, just place your motor verticle for a few minutes and that should do it. Don't wait to drain your motor till you get home as your lower unit could freeze on the way home and that will be co$tly.
No need to go through winterizing if it does get put away for more than a couple of months. If you are worried and want to do something, pull out spark plugs and shoot some fogging oil in the cylinders, crank the motor a couple of times and place the plugs back, you are done.

| Seafoam? I have been running Stabil since the spring. Could they both be used? I plan on storing the motor in the basement for a few months, to do the oil and plug change. Though that is not set in stone......it's only a 15 HP....how many of you keep it outdoors during the winter??? |

Location: Il | You can get sea foam at most auto parts stores. I know auto zone has it and so does farm and fleet and some gas stations. Its in a metal can that is white with red writting. |

Location: Waukesha, WI | I got my winterizing supplies today, and I asked one of the mechanics about using Sea foam. He recommended against it saying it is a fuel system cleaner and not an octane maintainer. I read the label (go figure) on the Mercury branded fuel stabilizer, and it stated it doesn't contain alcohol. |

Location: Waukesha, WI | as Columbo likes to say "ah, just one more thing!" As I finished up my winterizing today, I pulled the prop off to clean and grease the prop shaft. I found a few feet of fishing line wrapped around the shaft. You may want to consider this as another step. Mike |

Location: Wisconsin | I fish Lake Michigan the whole year and this time of year and into January I don't winterize (stored in a garage) but I rotate my motor all the way up and then all the way down and both ways you will get water coming out. Just to make sure to not get ice in the lower unit..... |
