Subject: Reel Suggestions

I will be purchasing/replacing 5 new reels over the winter and I am looking for suggestions.. Quality is more important than price although I would perfer not to spend more than $200 / Reel. Any experience with the Abu Record with the power handle? Any other suggestions... I need a reel that is VERY dependable, good drag system, smooth and can easily cast and work smaller bucktails all the way up to casting pounder dawgs...

Sound like a reel every musky fisherman is looking for. If you are used to the standard sized musky reels, 6000 Abus or 400 Shimano's and feel that the quality just does'nt measure up to what you are looking for, consider the narrow spool 7000's. The new 7000ihsn has what your looking for, although I've yet to try mine out so I can't comment on the durability. Nice drag system, smooth, and it's a sharp looking reel. Mine cost 150.00 bucks. I had great luck with my Record, but did hear of a few guys having problems with them. But the reel I liked the most was the Red SSC3's, same as the regular C3's but these have the thumbar, I pounded the piss out of those reels and let's just say I will be buying more of those! Maybe a luna mixed in to, would like to at least give one a try.

For the best quality, I would go with daiwa. I have 2 Millionaire cvx-253's that are 4 years old without any maintainance. Very well built. My next reel will be a luna.

This year I got a new Record. After a couple of months I replaced two CVZ millionaires with two more records. Lower cost and a better reel.
