Posts: 480 | Hey Top, I fished Lake James, it's a mountain reservoir outside of Charlotte. Walleyes and Stripers are the main attraction but it's a record type muskie lake. Lots of structure, very clear water, good access, beautiful surroundings and not busy in cold weather. This time of year I would fish the channels and incoming river mouths, there also is some dandy midlake structure that must be checked out every time. I would like to retire there someday.

Try finding Lake Adger. 60 hp limit. Someone got a high 30 to low 40lber in spring.

Posts: 94 | http://www.westernnorthcarolinamuskyclub.com/ Try this link. This is a local club with some great fishermen who love the sport. One of the members caught a fish just 2oz. shy of the state record of about 42lbs. this spring. I don't know where you are in NC but Melton Hill should only be a few hours away. Email me if you wish and I can give you some more info on Melton Hill. Chris

Posts: 4080 Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | Guy's, thanks for the info. I need to be on big water because of having a 20ft boat with 200hp I'm located 50 miles north of Durham NC. James lake is not as far as Melton Hill, but is it a good numbers lake, and are there any BIG fish in this lake? Also I'm only 10 miles from the VA.border. Thanks, Jerome

Posts: 94 | [email protected] If Lake James is easier check with Glenn at the above email address he did real well on the lake this spring. It is not a numbers lake, but he was able to land a few in the 40inch class including a 47 or 48 inch fish. Check with Glenn because I believe they draw the lake down in fall and some landings may not be usable. I am fishing Melton Hill Wed. and I will let you know if they are biting there. Chris

Location: Athens, Ohio | There are some big muskies in Fontana Lake, too, but from what I hear, not what you'd call a 'fishable population'. Or, maybe that's what they want us to think? Your boat would do well on that big lake, which has an excellent smallmouth reputation. m
