Posts: 412 Location: Waukesha, WI | do you open your storage compartments and get a whiff of gas fumes? I can't imagine this is normal, and with the built-in tank on my Lund, the dealer said they could pressure test the system. It has been this way for a couple years since I picked it up as a Lund fleet boat, and the hull is dry so it isn't leaking in great quantities. The dealer also mentioned it could be the pick-up gasket on the fuel tank. Is this something worth having the dealer change? Apparently, Lund had a recall on '03 and '04s for this gasket, but mine is an '02.

Posts: 5874 | I had the same smell in my 02 Lund. I was concerned enough that I took the floor out over the tank, and inspected it. Not a bit of evidence that the tank, or any of the fittings were leaking. After discussing with my dealer, Lund, and others, we determined it was the volatiles in the glue used on the vinyl inside the compartments. I always opened the compartments when the boat was in the garage. Still did it afet 4 years. Not saying this is the same thing on yours, but I woul definately pull the floor up over the tank, and inspect. Also, make sure the vent tube is secure.

Posts: 49 Location: St. Croix River, Mille Lacs, | ESfishOX the fumes are not normal, there are several points that need to be inspected and maybe tightened. Sound like you checked the fill hose at the tank and the vent hose there as well. Check the other end(s) at the gunwale side as well, also check for screw marks at the top of the fule tank, possible that a srew may have been run into the tank seen it happen on trackers and tritons several times. Next check the fuel pick-up line that runs to the selector valve bib at the port rear. This selector valve may also be the culprit. Remember with gas fumes a couple drops make a HUGE odor.

Posts: 412 Location: Waukesha, WI | actually, until now, I've only checked the fill hose and vent connections by the gunnel. I checked the connections to the tank itself and from the tank hose to the adapter through the rear deck to the hose with primer bulb that goes to the motor. The connections seem good and tight, and I don't think the smell is coming from around those connections. How much room around the perimeter of the tank is there for the screws that go through the brackets and down into the tank? Is the piece in the center for the fuel gauge? I don't know how I'd check it for a complete seal. The odor makes it into every compartment or like Shep stated, it starts in each. I've had to open them too, but I'm sure hoping I don't have to tolerate it any longer. Attachments ---------------- lund_gas_tank_cropped.jpg (196KB - 120 downloads)
