Posts: 2112 Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | Hey folks, For those of you throwing 10" gliders, have you had your anti-reverse go to crap on you? I've had it happen now on 2 of my C-4's in the last two weekends. Now, granted these reels are not new. They've been in service for 4-5 years. Please, let's not turn this into this reel sucks, this reel is better debate.

Posts: 8781 | Yep Same thing happened on my Millionaire. Been told it's a case of too much grease on the AR bearing. Took it apart, cleaned it up, little oil here and there, thought it was fixed until the next time I tried throwing gliders... Set the hook on a fish and the handle turns backwards freely... NOT GOOD

Posts: 2112 Location: The Sportsman, home, or out on the water | It's gotta be the heavier gliders, I'm thinking. I have not really thrown anything under 10" in the last 4 weeks. All that tapping on these big baits has to be the cause. Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

i've had that happen with both Daiwa and Abu reels late fall /cold weather both last year and this year. on warmer days or in the spring: problem was gone. once it happens, it sure shakes my confidence, though...

I have had the same thing happen in cold water

Posts: 1937 Location: Black Creek, WI | I've been told that the cold weather "thickens up" the grease.... causing problems. So yah.. its probably cold weather related. I've had calcuttas that had this problem too. Take 'em inside and let them thaw.... and they work fine again. Take your reels apart and wipe away any of the paste looking lubrication.... and use just a drop of the ABU oil instead.... and your problems should get better. For what its worth.... my record froze up last Wednesday night while fighting a fat 42 incher. The cold weather had the grease bound up on the freespool button... and I had to turn the handle several times before the spool would engage. A cold-weather related issue for sure!

Posts: 299 Location: Ontario, California | jlong is correct. the mojority of the time it's a grease issue. Most manufacturers have gone round and round trying to find the right composition on the grease to still allow the bearing to do it's job smoothly but still not freeze up and cause the handle to go backwards. Best bet is to take the excessive grease out and re-grease. I haven't had our technicians try oil but I will.
