Got back from a week on Sabaskong. We saw plenty of fish, but could only get one of them to eat. Most of the fish where in the pockets of islands with cabbage weeds in them. I was wondering what lures work best in cabbage weeds that are topping out on the surface? We couldn't get any action on hair or spinnerbaits. Surface lures provided a couple of blow ups but no hook ups. The lures that where moving the fish was jerks, both glide and dive and rise. Only they would just slowly follow. How do you tigger these fish? Are there any lures that you can work down deeper in the cabbage without being fouled up and wasting a cast? Thanks!![:)]

That can be a tough order to fill. I like to try using a saftey pin style of spinner bait if possible in this situation. If I can motor through the weeds fairly fast, I do so that seems to cure the fish that blow up into something that takes. If the weeds are really thick you have to stick with the slop baits, unless you can get a weedless rubber bait into the mix. A nineinch sluggo rigged Texas style can be a great way to go.

I use cranks for cabbage(rapala''s, bombers, swimwizzes). A hard rip should shake the cabbage off. Also try burning bucktails with french blades as fast as you can.
