Anyone have any info they are willing to share about Boom Lake in Rhinelander? My friend and I have been trying to crack this body of water for a year, have only had minimal success. Colors, Baits, Locations during different times of the year? I really enjoy being on this body of water because it seems to offer a variety of fishing spots...timber, deep breaks in the river channel, good weeds in places like Bostrom's bay, cribs, midlake structure. Thanks in advance.

I like the lake, but it gives me fits some days. I fish the main lake quite a bit and do pretty well unless it's League night, then I just suck wind. This time of year the deep structure is key, especially for big fish. Suckers on the deep breaks can be really good, just remember to reign them in some when you get into the river and all that wood. Big gliders moved slow and deep are good, as is a Suick moved slow and low. Don't rule out the weedlines either, the still green weeds produce this time of year, just off the edges. Dawgs are good there all year, saw a bunch of fish caught on those on the mid-lake structure this summer and fall.

i look at boom as 3 very separate systems with (1) the back-water, (2) the main lake and (3) the river ... this time of year my tactic would be to focus as Steve suggests on the deeper breaks of the main lake with dawgs and big joes with a sucker out. there are a few spots including weed fingers and some inside turns and other structure that seem to be the types of cats that tend to stay in the bag .... rip rap on the south shore though is obvious and the lake has cribs as well. the second place and my favorite for many reasons is the river itself with special attention paid to the channel location as you pick spots.

you ask a great question, hope this helps ... it's my absolute favorite body of water in wisconsin .... good luck.
