Anyone catch their own versus spending money on them at bait shops? There aren't any places in central IL that sell suckers and I really want to try them out on some of our shad based lakes (hey, they work on the Fox Chain and Webster, even some down in KY right??).

Wondering how you would go about catching them (small hook and tiny bit of worm, crappie nibbles, etc?) and what would be the best general areas to look for them? Thanks.

Also, does anyone know the rule/regs regarding catching suckers from one body of water to use as bait in another (for IL)?

use 1/2 of a night crawler on about a number 6 hook and some lead, let it sit on the bottom in slower areas of rivers and streams. works in the summer, should work now.

i have caught my own sometimes...I need to go try my honey hole next week in fact...the spot that I do the best in, is a bend in the river, deep pool, slow moving water...split shot, 1/2 of nite crawler on a hook toss it out, and wait...if they are there you can usually get a few right away...i fish them in a very small river/creek...maybe 20 feet across or so...good luck!
