I have been collecting custom trolling lures over the past 3-4 years, as I have started doing more fall trolling than in the past. While I have come accross several nice lures, with some of them becoming my favorites(like Kermit Goods' Musky Magnets, Maison baits, and Lokes), I have always come back to flat sided plastic lures when the going gets tough. I particularily like Jakes, and grandmas and would like to know if there are any custom lure manufacturers making flat sided lures specific to applications. I am looking for 7 and 8" flat sided cranks that are not as deep as an 8" Jake, but just a tad deeper profiled than a 7.5" Grandma, but with the same type of shallower lip. I want them primarily for trolling, so they need to withstand high speeds. I know Loke used to make a flat sided model, but they have discontinued making them for some reason. If anyone knows of someone producing the type of trolling lure I am looking for, please let me know. Feel free to drop me an email. [email protected]

thanks in advance!!

Hawaiisbest60 makes some nice baits that troll well and don't go as deep. Lunker Bait company does too but they may troll just as deep as the jakes. Slammers are another option. You can troll a 10" tr twitcher too.

Reefhawg,
They maybe to big for what you are looking for,but Trueglide Undertow(flat) at 13" and Capt Bigfish's Supernatural "Lites"(only 16" ) are great fall trolling lures(all year actually). they fall into that "custom" category. We've had a lot of nice fish on those styles.

Uptown, some nice looking baits no doubt, but I have no shortage of big stuff. Really would like to see one of those in a 6.5-7.5"!! ToddM, I was just thinking about the Slammers, and trolling them. I had trouble with the ones I had about 10 years ago with the finish all peeling off and have not used them since, but I would think they have that figured out by now. I might need to try one of those. Did you get my email regarding leaders??

Cooool. Send the links to those lure manufacturers too if you wouldn't mind. Can't locate them. Take care.

I'm pretty sure that Leo Lures makes a flat sided bait called "the slab" I know that his round baits run fast I would assume that his slab side baits would also .

Try http://www.fishall-lures.com/talon.html and check out the 6.75" Claw in the trolling version.

I would have thought shallow raiders and shallow invaders would do exactly what you were after. Maybe cranes too?

J, I agree with the Little Claws that someone else mentioned. I have a few I used for casting, and they look good. You know how much I troll, so I can't really tell you how they work. I know Mike King was also working on a larger version, so maybe ask him about that. This year they also came out with a trolling lure similar to a Wileys. I know it's not flat sided, but check it out. I heard they were doing well with them.

Jim Ferris, from Pittsburgh, PA makes various flat sided baits that are wired through. If interested in contacting him try [email protected] . He makes a very nice lure.

Thanks guys!! That is what I was looking for. I will check them all out. Tim, I like a lure without rattles, and one that doesn't vibrate alot like cranes. I haven't thought about trolling the invaders, but just might...

Jason, the hawaaisbest60 baits can pretty much only be found on ebay. The lunker bait, I am pretty sure has a website but I have bought stuff he brings to the minneapolis swap meet. He goes by Gman on this site.

Don't know much about them as I just twitched one a bit this spring but what about Molly baits? The smaller bait is 7 1/2" and IMO does not have alot of vibration (I was actually kind of disappointed), does anyone troll this lure? If so how does it perform?
