What is the coldest water temps you have ever caught a fish on topwater?.

I have at 54 degree water temp.

It wasn't my fish, but my brother caught a 46" on a Hawg Wobbler in mid Novemeber last year. This was a fish that was raised twice earlier in the day on two different lures. It didn't try to eat until given the top water. The water temps were somewhere in the mid 40s I believe, I can't remember for sure.

From everything I've heard, it's not too cold to fish top waters unless there's ice. Then too, I've actually heard of someone bringing their Top Raider off a sheet of ice and into open water and having one hit.

The lesson is, you never know what these fish will do!

I don't bring water temps into the equation when deciding to use topwaters. I have caught muskies on opening day and after turnover on topwaters. Certain types are better when the water is cold, usually slow moving Creeper types or Hawg Wobblers work. I have also caught cold water fish on Jackpots and my favorite, a 10 inch jointed Believer worked slowly as a top water. Muskybuster's Topwalker has also worked well, even in high winds.

Good luck, Murph!
