Posts: 605 Location: Marshfield, WI | I've often have slow evenings fishing in the fall. What are some of the more productive baits once the sun has fallen below the horizon? I think most of my success has come on bucktails but just wondering if there are better options out there. Krishna

Posts: 5874 | I've had good luck with Top Raiders at night, even in later fall. But my best baits on fall nights has been a black/nickle buctail, like a 700 series Buchertail.

I was going to say topraiders or super topraiders also. I have had the best luck with those 2 lures.

Posts: 691 Location: nationwide | If the fish are still shallow a slightly oversized hawg wobbler seems to be my best for fall topwaters. Lee Lures H20 is the size I am looking for. Corey Meyer

Posts: 1636 | I can't really go on a whole lot of experience fishing lakes after dark in the fall but this past weekend on a lake produced a few fish including a fat 43"r on spinnerbaits after dark while the fish were slow during the day. They were all pretty shallow. For river fishing I stick with larger crankbaits. Edited by Reelwise 10/4/2006 10:01 AM

Posts: 20231 Location: oswego, il | For fall fishing when the water gets colder, drag and stop a spinnerbait at night. Use one that you can feel the vibration. I started using this pattern last year and it works well.

Posts: 605 Location: Marshfield, WI | Thanks for the tips guys. I got a big husky hawg wobbler that I found at Walmart about 6 years ago for $12. I couldn't pass that up. Probably stick with that, bucktails, top raiders, and maybe a pacemaker. Spinnerbaits sound like a great choice too. Just need to get a new blade for my favorite one. Krishna

Posts: 194 | I'd look into American Hardwood Lures Giant Klunker or Wuumper. www.musky-lures.com Thes are some tough as nails/ fishy baits.

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Krishna, I'm with meyer. The husky sized hawg wobbler type lure(I prefer the Broken Log, or the Rylure 650 Wobbler) in a yellow(or other frog like) color has been best till the water drops into the 40's it seems. That said, it has not been so hot this year. Been seeing more on a topraider than other top stuff, with overall topwater numbers way down. Edited by Reef Hawg 10/6/2006 10:12 AM

Posts: 691 Location: nationwide | I traded for a Lee Lures H2O last week and got it in the mail last night. Took it 100% apart, thru-wired and added rear spreaders . . . . . see attached picture. This thing will get a few miles on it this weekend for sure. Corey Meyer Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 691 Location: nationwide | My all time favorite hawg wobbler is one I made back in the late 80's we named Nitschke. It has always had water log problems and I gave it a new home with a friend a couple years ago. The sound this thing makes at the joint is unequaled and I have not been able to duplicate it in any other lure. Corey Meyer Attachments ---------------- ![]()

I would tend to agree with the choice of a topraider during cooling water temps in the 60's. However there are periods (around turnover?) where the fish just won't break the surface. If fish follow the TR and won't hit it come back with a jerkbait that runs fast at the depth of the fish, and thrown in a pause now and then - get 'em to chase it with speed and trigger with a pause.

Sick lokking Wobbler, Corey, looks like it's seen some water, too. I'll put up some baits next week, 13" Grandma, DRaider, Bobbie, Suick. If ya can't buy it, make it.
