Posts: 8797 | I always joke around about how the difference between a great lure and a turd (can I say that?) is one fish, but now that I think about it... I have lures I've caught fish on that I really don't like I have lures I've never moved a fish on that I really DO like I've got lures I've never even thrown that fall into both categories Sometimes I can pick up a lure, throw it for a couple casts and it's just not doing it for me. Nope, take it off. Other times I can pick up that same lure and even though I may have never even had a fish give it a look I don't want to take it off even after probably 100 casts. Sometimes its color, sometimes it's the weather, sometimes it's action. Sometimes I don't know what it is, but I just have to throw a certain lure. And it seems to be the times that I can't seem to pinpoint why I feel like I have to throw that lure that I have the best results with it. What is it for YOU that makes a lure one you want to use? Catching a big fish on it? A lot of fish? Moving fish on it? Is it maybe that it has a sound or action that's a little different from others of its type? Obviously catching a fish on it makes you more confident in it, but sometimes there's more to it.

Posts: 811 | For me, it's all about having confidence in what I'm using. If I don't have confidence in it, it comes off pretty quick and I try something else. If you're asking what gives me confidence in a certain lure it's a lot of things...color, size, action, number of fished raised/caught and also the current weather and water conditions.

Posts: 34 | I second the confidence factor. I once left a bait out for two days while trolling without a rip. My partner thought I was nuts. He asked me "how long are you going to leave that &^%^ing thing out?" I only comented " she'll go eventully." The lure looked to good to change. It had the right action, right color, was running at the right depth range. Day three I landed 2 bookend 48 1/2"ers. Day four I got another one right at 48" and a 45". Landed a few other lower 40"ers later in the week. All on that same lure. I dont think I fished anything other then that one lure all week. Confidendce is #1 in my book. Instinct and experience follow shortly there after. Good luck...

Posts: 1106 Location: Muskegon Michigan | Confidence yes, Igot about 50 lures that Im confident in. The problem is figuring out which one is going to stay on. I build baits so its different with me. I f I dont like a bait I trade it off and build me another couple until I get one that gets hammered all the time. My best lures look like chew bones for a hound dog.Lures that catch lots of fish will sooner or later catch big fish if they are in the lake you are fishing. I would say Lures that get lots of attention stay on my lines. Kingfisher

Posts: 921 Location: Apollo, PA | Say what you will, you can have several lures of the same type, but some lures are just annointed. The ones with all the teeth marks. Heck, my buddy has a jerkbait that doesn't have a bit of paint on it. (was perch) And he won't get it painted. Doesn't want to screw up the MOJO. Fish still attack it, and it looks like a piece of wood you'd see on the side of the road........ Edited by Pikiespawn 10/3/2006 7:22 PM

Posts: 1504 Location: Oregon | I agree with you Pikie, there are some lures that fish just love to eat! Funny thing is that you might have two others that look identical to it in all ways and yet the fish don't like them for some reason. When you find a "magic lure" you guard it with your life! Posts: 786 Location: Minnesota | Ya, got a Suick that I would fight hard for. Looks like crap but gets my pike in Canada. Can't get a muskie to take it though. Not one follow! lol It is my "pike" lure of love though. Still funny to me that I can't get a muskie to even look at it. James

Posts: 284 Location: Fishing the weeds | Teeth marks and hook rash. With over 400 baits, I still have only 15 or so that I have total confidence in. Like was said before you just get a feeling about certain baits. Pat
