Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Yeah, stay on the bait fish. Pike are cold water afficienado's. However, they will probably be shallow in the warmer bay's catching the last remenants of heat from ole' Sol. - north shore line bays. 6" Alien worked slow, or 9" Alien worked even slower, or Miller Wobbler (yellow & gold) with 4'' frog squid as a teaser. However, slow can be relative- I have caught pike trolling a Zam at ~ 9.8 mph (gps speed). Change it up you should connect.

| I'd rather show you than tell you. Look forward to seeing you and Becky on Friday! They should be most anywhere in the lake now. We have had a good amount of rain, and cool weather over the last few days (nights in the 30's with talk of evening snow showers the next day or two).
Anywhere in the lake could have pike looking for a meal... shorelines with weeds starting to die off, that bay that had a nice pike take a run at your lure last year, the rock point, the reef.... there are a number of good spots to hit.
Have a safe drive up!

| I would target outside edges of good weeds if there are green weeds left..if not...target rocky points, and any small sunken rocky humps/islands...wind blown rocky shorelines, reefs etc...for baits..heck they are pike, they eat anything!
spoons are always a good bet, twitch baits in the 6-9 inch range...reg dawgs get eaten alot ! reef hawgs do as well

Location: Stevens Point, WI | Husky Jerks are the way to go Mike! Weighted suicks will also be great baits to have along. The pike should definitely be moving shallow again. I have taken many pike in the spring in the 15 to 20lb. range. Those fish start to move back on the points leading into the bays and will be found very close to those spawning grounds again. I'm sure your dad will be right on to where they are living. Hope you have a great time! |

Location: The desert | For all that dont know "Greg@AgateBayLodge" is my dad. Becky and I are heading up to his lodge this thursday. We are just going for the weekend, but it will still be a lot of fun. I get to teach the old man how to fish!!! Will post pics for sure once I am back!

Location: Minnesota | Troll the mid water humps towards the deep sides. I have also heard (not done) jigging large spinner baits among bait fish works well. I know it sounds odd and it will to me until I catch some big pike doing this but, this is what a lodge owner said he has had luck doing in the past.

| Gonna teach the old man are ya! I look forward to some friendly father/son competition (truth be told, I enjoy seeing Mike get into some good fish).
That Husky Jerk suggestion is a good one. I have landed many a fine pike using them, for bigger pike this time of year it is one of my favorite lures. I have been commited to working Esox Cobra jigs with Reaper tails or Shad tails... I will be giving them a good working this weekend!

Location: Stevens Point, WI | Yes in deed do those Husky Jerks work Mr. Bolinski. I have never seen a single bait dominant so well for BIG pike and those ever annoying hammerhandles. But you have to catch the small ones to catch the big ones. |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | Pretty tough to beat a spinnerbait grinding through the slop if the bait fish up in there too. Somedays it's pike city when i'm grinding. Throw an all chartreuse TM grubtail, I have one that probably has well over a hundred pike on it, it rarely catches muskies!! Sorry Todd, awesome baits, and yes they do catch lot's of muskies too. LOL!!

| Trolling big baits around 3.5-4.0 miles per hour seems to work best for me.

| if you want a fat girl....don't forget a white bucktail jig tipped with 6"s of meat !! Move it slow..that gets those big girls excited - when you feel her weight it put a smile on your face ...OH.. they like to hand out at the local rocky BARS! Good luck! |

| Dude, locally after the waters cool the big pike move from suspending at thermo to real shallow slop/weeds. Real shallow, all they want is a hole from which to look up and slam overpasses. Big froggies are playing around the shore. A medium size Jhonson Spoon in firetiger with a white twin twister tail, on a light leader (20-30#) using lighter line, like 12# mono, will bring 'em up like crazy. Seems like my rig is light, and it is, but so what it allows the spoon to move just right and I've boated plenty (ok, well, a couple) pike up to 40". Also, you'll get a shot at major trophy bass that otherwise wouldn't be worth trying during the summer, they move way shallow, too, when the water cools. |

Location: The desert | Mike caught a nice pike today, measured in at 38". Weather was in the low 50's, mostly cloudy, some drizzle here and there. We were fishing in about 10 ft of water. Not overly weedy, but we were next to deeper water. He also caught some lake trout earlier. Having a great time!
