| Well I tuned up my skeg on a rock/stump today and busted about 2 inches off of it. When it broke it took a sliver off all the way up on the prop side also. I was wondering how somebody goes about fixing something like this? Does the whole bottom need to be replaced or can it be welded and blended? I am in Central WI and wanted to know if anybody would recomend somebody for this type of work.
The scary thing is I have run throught the same spot many time before and The locator was reding 10ft. This body of water is known for rock outcrops though. I will be back to check out the spot once my nerves have settled a bit.

| It can be repaired, but I'd wait til the end of the season. Take off the lower unit, and take it to a good prop repair shop. They'll weld on a new piece, anf paint it up like brandy new. Where in central WI? |

| I believe Heckel's Marine can send you to a good prop guy. Wait a bit, and somebody here will have advice on where. You needn't be in a hurry. As I said, just wait til the season is over. It's not hurting anything.
Did you get the prop at all? |

| There is a good repair place in Wi. Rapids that I highly recommend. I'm at work right now, so don't have the number available--will edit later when i get home. Ditto on Sheps advice on waiting til season's over. My skeg is a rock magnet and has some chunks missing along with a nice curve, but doesn't affect much, so I keep using it. No sense in having downtime. |

| Thanks for the replies. I will check out the place in Schofield, but would also like to get the info for the place in Rapids.
Shep i hammered the prop hard. Ticks me off since I just put in on the first part of June. I don't mind fishing in the rocks and getting a few dings, but this damage was a little over the top for my liking.

| Peaches, they can fix the prop, too. Ask them to check the runout on the prop shaft while you have it there, just in case it got tweaked. |

Location: Corning, Iowa | If the Skeg is curved a little. is it possible to take a dead blow hammer and straighten it, or will it crack, and brake. I bent mine some, and the mechanice said it would be ok, but I'd like to straighten it. Thanks Doug |

This is your next door neighbor from Indian Pt Camp this July. How's it going? I bent a skeg on a 90 Johnson on the 'goon a couple years ago and straightened it with a small sledge hammer. I don't know if I was very smart when I did this, and I'm not recommending this apporoach, but the skeg didn't break. It was bent about a 1/4" from top to bottom. I had to hit her fairly good to get her straight. I hit it about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom of the skeg on the thickest part of the skeg. Like the others said, don't try to fix until the season is over, just in case! Have a good one.

The seasons over down here, for awhile. Temps in the high 90.don't know what the water is, but too hot. Who ever goes to the goon first, put a marker on the north end of Anderson, farther out.
