Fellas-

What is the story or population of ski's in Lake Michigan? All the other Great Lakes and tributaries seem to support their species, what are we missing besides sewage? Anything in the Chicago Area????

Hey Hot,

I've been fishing for musky in the Sturgeon Bay area of Wisconsin for about three years now, and while I have not scored myself, I have seen 5 fish caught, the smallest of which was 42". The largest, if memory serves me correctly was either 53" or 54" and just over 40 lbs. It's great water, but it's also very big and very weather dependent. I have made the decision to hit it pretty hard this year in an attempt to put one in the boat. Personal experience has been best from early September to close. All the fish that I have seen from this area are really fat. Not surprising considering the forage that they have to eat. If you should have any other questions, email me and I'll try to answer them for you.

Good luck this season.....Pat

I routinely catch muskie out on the big lake. Generally I catch at least 4 or 5 a day, and I usually only do about 3 or 4 hours out on the water at a time. I find that trolling burmeks and pigs (the suspending pig Jr. is my pork product of choice) at about 10mph brings them in like flies to S**T. When that doesnt work, I find that dynamiting likely hot spots works well....when all else fails I like to chemically poison areas of the lake that are about the size of 2 football fields. When that doesn't work, I just fish lakes that are known to have sizeable populations of muskie in them.
