I cought a big musky just few hours ago. Now the way I cought it might sound rediculous to some of you but I am not lying. I was fishing for carp like I usually do on that spot of the Gatineau river Ottawa/Hull area. My bait is simple boilie with red color and a hair rig. I usually catch huge carp there around 20lbs on average but today was really not too great for fishing. So I didn't get a single shot on the rod for a while and then all of a sudden it shook a little bit. I thought I go for it and pulled to rod fast and what do you know a huge musky jumps out of water like a shark. I was puzzled at first how did I get that fish on that bait but then I was so excited and was thinking of getting it out any way possible. When fish got tired and I pulled it close I finally saw what was going on. I hooked the fish right above the head sort of a top neck area. I guess I just got really lucky there. Fish was being curious about the bait and touched the fishing line and I cought it accidently. Now since I never bring anything to weight the fish with and I don't know much about musky, I need to see what you people think of how heavy this one is. I am around 5'9" in heigh or 179cm. I think fish is definetely over 20kg from my estimate. What do you guys think? Check the link for the pictures.. Attachments ---------------- nocomentof6.jpg (312KB - 99 downloads)

hmm, I hardly can believe this fish is 10 kilos, I have cought 15 kilo carp before and this thing weights way more than that, I think the way I was holding the fish threw some people off. Hardly a 20lbs fish I can garanty you that. Here is a small video that might give you a better look at the fish. Don't mind the foreigh language... And fish was released btw. http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-1511009717289766534

beautiful fish, Slavke. good job releasing it to keep growing even bigger. a good technique for finding fish weight is to measure both length and girth, then use the following formula: length x girth x girth / 800 this will give a close approximate weight. many muskie fisherman encourage the practice of keeping fish in the water (except for a quick picture), rather than bringing it into the boat or onto shore where it can lose it's protective slime coating. reducing the time out of water also reduces the time the fish has to hold it's breath. this helps ensure successful releases while reducing the risk of delayed mortality where a fish swims away only to die later from the stress. thanks for sharing it here with us.
