Posts: 53 | I just bought a pacemaker from R and H last week and got to try it out this weekend. Couple issues.. When I'm bringing it in, it appears that the middle hook is getting caught on the prop blade causing the bait to start waggling side to side on the surface. Not a desireable action for sure. Secondly, the head section of the bait rotates during the retrieve..is this normal? If anyone has any suggestions to fix these problems, please share them! I'm also looking for an email address for Ty Sennett.. Thanks

I have probably 35 Pacemakers and absolutely LOVE them. You can do a few things: 1. Cut off the middle hook, place two split rings there, then take another hook, cut all three points off and hang bare shank there. 2. Learn how to throw it properly. I never have any problems with mine, but as soon as I give it to one of my clients....they have problems. Start your retrieve AS soon as it hits the water. There is nothing wrong with your Pacemaker. Trust me. And there is nothing wrong if he head turns a little as well.

MuskyJay - 8/8/2006 9:33 AM If the head section is turning you are reeling to fast. Sorry J but I have a few pacemakers and some of them do headturning aswell but some don't ...havn't figured out why....yet

Posts: 53 | So you think the problems are caused by reeling too fast? Interesting. I tried the reeling in as soon as it hits the water, but I still have the problem. Seems like the closer to the boat, the worse it gets. I also looked on Ty's website, and there is no email address for him. Does anyone have a contact email for him? Thanks

I posted on his website about this same issue. I have one that does that as well, even after modifiying the bait without the middle hook(double splitring with only the hook shank hanging to click on the tail). Don't know why, but Ty says it's not the bait's fault. My others work flawlessly.

I wouldn't cut off all the points on the clacker hook. I have caught many fish that were only stuck on the stock clacker hook. If the body is rolling on you, I would suggest slowing it down. My best luck with pacemakers is to run them VERY slow, much slower than a top raider. Fish really clobber them when they are moving slow, like creeper slow.

Posts: 8806 | Some of mine roll easier than others, but they'll ALL roll if you reel them fast enough. is it the regular size or the big size?

Posts: 51 | One of mine rolled. You can put a bigger hook on the front = more weight, or simply put a 1/8 - 1/4 oz. egg sinker on a piece of wire and hang from the front splitring. This works better than drilling holes and pouring lead. Also makes it plow more water. As far as the middle hook; Find someone who has one that runs well. lay them side by side and look at the hooks. Are they exactly the same hooks? Are they put on exactly the same? Is the same barb cut off, and is the hook eye hanging from the screw eye in exactly the same manner? That's how I fixed a friends bait.

Two things. First, sometimes you need to adjust the length of the clacker hook. (I always cut the barbs) Unscrew the eye in the middle of the bait to adjust the length. Second, take a needle nose pliers and cup the blade about 1/8 inch. This helps to slow the bait and give better noise. Not all Pacemakers sound the same new, but they can be tuned to get what you want. Also, don't be afraid to put some spreader hooks on the bait.
