Subject: St Croix River

Have not yet fished the St Croix for ski's - was wondering what general section of the river to target? There is barge just above the "high bridge" that does not allow thru boat traffic. Do you put in above or below the barge? In my brief times on the river canoeing it seems like the section above the high bridge (from about Oceola to Taylor's Falls) has considerably more structure than below (from the bridge to Stillwater). On the other hand the section from Stillwater south is a much bigger peice of water.

Not looking for your favorite hotspots just some general suggestions.

Thanks

Hi Steve,
I've fished that section from below St Criox Falls past Osecola for 5 straight years and have not caught any muskies (10-12 trips). It looks good, walleye guys I've spoken with haven't seen muskies, landowners haven't seen muskies. I gave up on that section this year. I believe downstream of Stillwater holds a more fishable population (although still somewhat low numbers). I wish I had better results to show, but I think it's better left for the canoeists and pan fishermen.

I fish the croix from Stillwater down to the Kinni

Look for any weeds with access to deeper water.
Marinas - the fish are in there hiding under boats. I takes nerves of steel to cast a 3 oz hardbait @ a 3 million dollar boat.
Whatever you fish make sure it is BRIGHT Fire tiger is good, Silver, White, etc.

Hey I didn't hit return this time!! Have not fished it in a while but have had success this time of year around Stillwater. Better around sunrise, I would get out early. Concur with the bright baits and finding weeds. My best luck were in weeds on or near main channel, not the ones in back areas cut off from any nearby moving water. Bright jerkbaits did the trick for me and fish any eddy or current break you can find; especially deep eddy's.

Good luck and watch for deadheads!!!!!
