Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | The TC Chapter had it's first stocking of the fall. We purchased 40 muskies in the 20-30" range and stocked them in Lake Minnetonka last night. We're hoping to stock another 200+ fish of this size in tonka this year. We're only limited by our funds at this point. If anyone wishes to contribute to our stocking and rearing effort feel free to drop me a line. As some general info, every stocked fish in the 20-30" range has the same mortality rate of stocking 5-10 fingerlings. So the 40 fish we stocked are like stocking 200-400 fingerlings. Some of these fish could be caught this weekend they were so nice. I'm sure that some icefishermen are going to have a bit of a suprise fishing this weed flat this winter. ![]()

Posts: 2030 | Treats, Where are muskies of that size available and what is the cost? We have been working with our DNR in Iowa to add a couple more lakes .....this would definately "jumpstart" the fishery. Edited by IAJustin 10/31/2006 2:14 PM

Our Chapter stocked fish Friday, and also the week before the Board meeting. I think ours were around 10-14 inches, but a 40" fish got netted to so they through him in with the little ones. Bonus. I heard a 25 inch Muskie costs close to $30.00. What did you guys pay for those 20"-30" fish Shawn? Thanks.

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | Brain, you can send a check to me @: 414 Division St Excelsior MN 55331 Make them out to Muskies Inc (NOT ME!). The fish this year are going into Tonka. No "muskie bandito's" stocking program here ![]() Justin, I could tell you where I get them but then I'd have to kill you ![]() I think we're paying $25/each Edited by Muskie Treats 10/31/2006 2:53 PM

Great work Treats, good to hear. Our Fox River Valley stocking program is self funded but the more donations we get the more muskies we can help tag or stock. Not a bad price either given the size of the muskies you are able to stock ![]() Steve

$25 - $30 for a 30 inch Fish?!! That seems awful low....If that is the cost of one fish, that is awesome. Steve

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | Steve, most of the fish were supposed to be 18-20". When they started pulling the fish out of the nets they got some suprises. About 10% were around 28-30" with most being around 20". It averages about $1/inch which is roughly the going rate.

Treats Check is in the mail. Between this and my Thorne Brothers run at lunch, I only spent $315 on my musky addiction today. I don't keep track of what I spend on the year - for fear my wife will find out. Scary. Hope the little guys grow up to be big and strong. BrianF. p.s. - Can you please dump my fingerlings in West Arm??? hehe

Keep up the good work, Shawn. I hope you're able to raise enough money to allow you to do what you're attempting to do. I just found out what the totals were for our first year of stocking fish. It seems we were able to put 566 Muskies into a lake that supposedly never had them before. One fish was around 40", and the others were around 14" I think. I'll find out more details next week.

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | That sounds great Brad. Let's hope we can get Gull and Pokegama next year. The TC Chapter is doing some initial legwork to see if we can get Prior stocked in a couple years as well. Today we're putting in another 19 fish from 18"-35" into tonka.

Treats What is the prognosis for a Gull Lake stocking? I sent emails to the fishery guys during the public comment period, but haven't heard definitively how they viewed all of the public input. Brian

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | Hey Brian, There's a bunch of stuff going on right now in concerns with the muskie program in a positive way. I don't know what's going to happen with Gull right now and to be honest I don't think the DNR knows either. There's a new DNR commissioner and things have blurred a little bit. One thing that I can say is that the DNR has gotten the Esox round table going again (MI, MMA, Pike Inc, and Dark House) and we've all agreed that the DNR needs to produce a short and longterm plan together with what they want to do with the muskie program. It'll be a great step forward in that we can all work towards the same goals with the support of PI and the Dark House people. My fear is that they may want to put a hold on Gull and Pokegama. I'll know more once we have the main DNR round table next week.
