Location: Brookfield, WI | Though weary from the weekend, Professor Koepp was kind enough to take me trolling on Pewaukee tonight. The bite seemed tough for everyone, but we managed two 37" fish. One for me, and one for the man. Both came within a half hour after the man in the moon showed his big round face above the trees. He was smiling at us, and I think I saw him wink right after we got mine to the boat.
Thanks Mike, it was a blast.

Location: Brookfield, WI | Joel, I did set one on a board back 70', and he did have me pull the ones on my side of the boat in when the need arose. Not too many tangles. I did drive the boat along the way points on the graph while he set the lines, and was frustrated by another boat that kind of cut me off. I also petted his dog Sandy for a good portion of the night. I might be turnng into a fisherman, who knows. Next time we fish I can be more of a helper monkey, instead of the big gorilla just trying to stay out of the way.
Slimm, we went with a light colored Pseudo tumbled marble. The tile guy is going to cut squares of Volga Blue granite tile to inset as accents to match the counters. Since those will have straight edges, my wife did not want the natural looking edges of true tumbled marble. By the way, our floor is a porcelain by Richitti (sp?) in the Smoked Woodland color. We steered clear of the Patagonian Rosewood as we felt our cabinet stain was a bit too dark to also have a wood floor. We did not want it too seem like a ski lodge.
Am I good or what? Muskies AND kitchen design, and you should see me cook. I'm also a very good eater, which is obvious to all who have seen me.

Yes, you have to bring in the rods on your side when your out fishing with me. Guide jobs I do all the work..........fishing for fun you have to do some work. LOL
I talked to the rest of the boys after I got back and everyone else was still looking for that first fish. I wish that rip, rip, rip, we missed would have been hooked. That would have been your 2nd of the night. It was your turn. Next time !!!
That trolling stuff can be fun. A couple 4 fish nights and a couple 3 fish nights last week kept me and the clients happy. I think this week is going to be great with the full moon and hopefully some weather to get them going.

Location: Home of the 2016 World Series Champion Cubs | Hey Mike, which boards are you running and with what type of baits? I'm assuming 6"-8" shallow to medium running cranks and or small-med bucktails? I'm considering buying a couple of planer boards. Have you found certain boards that are insufficient and if so, which ones? I currently only have a couple of std. yellow birds that I use trolling for eyes. I dont quite think they'll handle musky baits.

Location: Racine, Wi | Karl, I think Mike runs the Off Shore boards. That's what I run as well. You can run pretty much any crank in the small to med size off them, and even bigger cranks, but they tend to pull back a bit under the drag. Crank wise, Ernies, Depth Raiders, Bagleys all get the nod this time of year, but I do put bucktails down on drop weights from time to time. Hopefully that helps a bit. |

One tip is to change the front line holder clip to the bigger clamp lock clip that is sold for about $10.00. This will allow you to run super line and bigger baits without your line slipping through the smaller clips.
Ceck out the off shore web site or most tackle shops will have the larger clips.
Line lengths and baits are determined by the depth and speed you need to get too. Most baits will work if you can get them to the fish without too much line drag. If a bait will not dive deep enough quick enough it will loose its action.
The shorter the line the better the action on the cranks. Thats your tip of the day!!

| I use the OR-16(Red) releases, and have never had a problem slipping, or losing a board. But then, I use mono on my boards.
The OR-18, or snapper releases, can be adjusted to hold very tight, and do work better on superlines. They are also easier to work when your phalanges are approaching ambient temperature in the fall! Easier for kids, too, no matter the temp. |
