Hey guys, I am staying at Indian Point camp August 12-19. I have had my first experiences in Wabigoon ever this year, one day in June and July. My question is, I know fish are generally moving out to the main lake and rocks in August on other lakes, but is this not the case on Wabigoon due to the goofy water color? Will shallow Junk still be good??

Also, does anyone have a recomendation for bucktail colors? I was originally thinking the brighter the better, but natural colored baits and black and orange got me my action on Muskies. Any tips would be appreciated, Thanks!

The big muskies will still be weed related, and will be shallower than other lakes most days. One can try the southern Island group that extends from the mouth of Contac to the east, that area has it all and covers all the bases. Pay close attention to the breakline from 2' to 6', in areas where there is a current break, that can be magic; especially if there are weeds and stones there. The North Shore bays from the microwave tower to the river going into town is laoded with that sort of thing. Surface baits, a must. Get a Perka and a Wabull for sure, make the Wabull dance and pop. Bucktail colors don't matter a whole lot, black and anything is fine, as is white and anything. Spinnerbaits are key in the slop, get some large Indiana style, I like the black and orange and bright stuff.

There's a map sopmewhere in camp we marked up during the outings, see if the good folks at Indian Point can locate that for you.

Has anyone here ever taken a canoe or jon boat down the wabigoon river, or Eagle river up there for Muskies? Is it even possible? Some of that stuff looks interesting to my river rat buds and myself when driving through.

I just crossed both last week and thought about fishing them from shore. They look like you could fish them very easily. Give me a call and let me know how you make out if you do it

I fished the Eagle River a little bit....It's hard to pinpoint areas( at least where I fished) because the shoreline is like exactly the same and doesn't change much. Got some pike, didn't see any Musky...

I fished the Wabigoon River way downstream a few times, near the waterfalls on the Red lake road. There's BIG walleyes in there, and also nice pike. While I am sure there are Muskies, I didn't see any

Thanks. Would love to take a float trip down one or both. Will have to do some more research. Maybe a wading trip would be in order first...
