Location: ohio | my dad bought me this reel years ago, i cannot remember exactly when but to this day the reel still works like new...Anyone have any idea when these reels ( AL series) started production. i already e-mailed ABU but have not heard anything from them yet...

| Hi Tiger!
I´m almost sure that the AL-series was produced during the first half of the 80´s.
I also has a feeling that the "AL" stands for "Aluminium" and in this reel some parts (probably the gearplate)
was made of aluminium instead of brass.

Location: ohio | thanks for the reply swede,
the more i think about it i do beleive it was bought in the early 80's,I cant recall if the plate is aluminum or not..but i do know that it still fishes well and i have hauled in alot of fish, and weeds, and logs and a few smaller docks with it... |

| If the side plates are aluminum then its from the 80's The older ones have steel sides. |
