| I have yet to catch a muskie this year, this is the first year I have really tried just for muskie, and I''m not doing well at all so far. I have all the basic lures, bucktails, jerkbaits, crank baits, and a few big plastics. One of the problems is I don’t know what to use and when, since all these lures are new as of this winter and spring, and I haven’t caught any muskie on any of them yet, I just don’t know what works. The only lure I have had a fish even follow is a jackpot, on lake Gervais. I have been out on Bald Eagle about 10 times so far this year, and haven’t even seen a fish. (Though I probably wouldn’t be able to tell even if I did have a follow, the waters so muddy)
I don’t know what I''m doing wrong; maybe I need to try a different lake? I have been fishing mostly shallow water; maybe I should try deeper? And what about the time of day? With it being so hot and sunny lately maybe I should stick to only night fishing?, or early morning?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ryan

| Hi Osprey, it can be frustrating at times but success will come.
Time on the water is the greatest teacher, always pay attention to
detail. If you are fishing dark or muddy water large noisey baits
will up your odds. Early morning
and dusk have always been good to me. Don't be afraid to try things
that are less conventional, some
of my biggest fish have been taken
on baits that were thrown at the wrong time or the wrong place.[:)] |

| Osprey, Been there myself. This is my third year fishing. The frist year and a half was a barren nightmare,Couldn't even get a follow. Frist off are you fishing too fast.Yes,speed at times is great but when there not hot it's counter productive. Vary your speed, but remember, Muskies eat the prey that are easiest to catch,2nd are you fishing areas that are prime to fish,If you got a map does it list places are know for muskies. If you don't have one check and see if you can get a Hot Spot map for your lake.If you can troll your waters try fishing the fist breakline or drop off.I don't know your lake, but I have learn that that first drop off usally holds fish somewhere. They may not be big but it's a start.Check into what lures are hot for your lake.Make sure there tune right, the better they wobble the better they work.Have faith,Look at every cast could be the one,the problem with this is after 4or5 hours we let our guard down and one sneeks in on us,so stay on your game and finally if your friends are giving you a bad time because you have't got one yet, just smile because they only fish walleyes and don't have the fun we have.I gotten four sofar this year, slow down, use hottes lures, have your stuff in good condition, and your out there to have fun and your frist strike, could only be a cast away.
