I'm just wondering what kind of speeds you are getting with certain motors and props? I have a 75 honda on mine and am considering to upgrade to a 115. Just wondering if it would be worth it. I fish a few tournaments to so a little more speed is always good.

Thanks,

Joe

I've got an 06' 1750 with a 115 E-tec. With a 13x19 stainless I can get 45gps by myself and lots of gear, 43 with two people and gear. With 13.75x17 stainless I can get 42gps. With the stock 14x17 aluminum I could only get 39gps without any gear in the boat.

The boat is rated for up to a 125hp. I kind of want to stick to a Honda. They come in a 115 and 130hp. Would I be able to put a 130hp on it or when they say 125 max means 125 max?

125 means 125 max.

I'd put a 115 E-tec, or Optimax on that rig, and you'll have the best performance. Next choice would be a 115 Yamaha or Merc 4 stroke, same motor, different lower units, or 115 Suzuki. Last choice would be a heavy, carbed Honda motor.

You're asking about speeds, so you must be concerned with performance. Honda is not the best performance choice, IMO.

I've got a 2000 1750 with a Johnson 115 (carb). I max at 40 mph (gps) with 2 guys and gear running the stock aluminum 14x17 at 5400 rpm. Hole shot is great. I borrowed a Raker (stainless) 13.5x22 and got 44 mph at 4900 rpm with same load. I think that's a bit too much pitch but hole shot was not near as bad as I thought it would be. It's tough to get enough boat out of the water with the TM batteries way up front.

The plate on the boat is a Maximum RECOMMENDED horsepower. You can put a 250 on it if you want, there is no law that says you can't however you may find diffculty getting the boat insured and if tournaments are part of the plan insurance is usually required.

You may consider asking the Coast Guard to re-rate the boat if this is important to you, they generally will for only 5 HP but this will incur much paperwork and headache.

Your best option is to go with the 115
