I was out on the3 Lakes chain Sunday and had water in the 71 - 72 degree range. went out tonite (Wed.) and found them between 80 right on top and 77 - 78 at the bottom of the trolling motor! when will we ever get some stable freakin weather around here?! And they are calling for warmer weather the rest of the week.

West central MN is supposed to have upper 90's temps for a few days, maybe even topping 100 degrees Saturday. Too hot to fish, at least for the fish's sake, in my opinion. I was supposed to fish tonight, but turned the air conditioning on, grilled steaks, and watched "Detroit Rock City" on video. All in the company of the GF. The fish will still be there when it cools off.

The best time to go is when you can......even in this heat. Bring a bag of ice for the livewell if the fish has trouble getting their strength back on the release.
It isn't to keep them fresh for eating but rather it helps the fish recover their strength.

Great point Steve.

Cool the fish down and then add lake water to get the water temps back to the level she will be going back into.

This works, I have seen a few fish saved by this method.

I have also seen 2 muskies killed on Pewaukee lake by poor handling skills. One guy had the fish in the bottom of his boat for 15 minutes and coldn't believe she would not release. He told me he does it all the time. I worked the fish with him after I noticed he still had her 45 minutes after he caught her. She was going to die and I told her he should keep it and NOT waits it. Well, after I left he muskie have pushed her off and left her to rot. I found her the next day and I could tell it was the same fish my a scare and the blackened area at the base of the tail from him holding her for an hour.

Fish die, they don't need to be waisted.

I's shure he will tell everyone it released fine. I will see him again and ask him how it went.

Keep them in the water at all times while you work on them. If a picture is needed thats ok but make it quick.

If you think it is too hot maybe you shouldn't be fishing for them?

I'm so excited!!! This is my favorite time of year - when everyone and their brother becomes an armchair biologist and knows what is good for and not good for the fish! Let's get the debates going!!!

My friend and I went yesterday. From 4pm on, we were the only boat on the water. We boated 3 and had 3 others hit and miss. We got them in quick and kept them in the water. I even cut hooks on the first one just so I could get it back in the water quicker. Another post was talking about bulldawgs at night. The third pic was cut on a bulldawg. My first night bulldawg fish.
